Tasty tidbits from the Baltimore/DC food scene...

...witty words of wisdom by Maria...

YOU SAID YES! And you Instagrammed a ring selfie to let all of your friends know you're officially engaged, right? Here's what you need to do first.

THE RING!
Talk to an insurance agent about coverage in case your ring or its stones ever need to be repaired or replaced. First, get an appraisal by a certified independent gemologist; most jewelers will provide this service upon purchase. And FYI-you may be able to add a jewelry rider to your existing homeowners or renter's policy; if not, set up a separate policy.

THE BUDGET
Prior to making any wedding decisions, you need to figure out what you have to spend and whether your families will contribute. Make sure you and your fiancé agree about your priorities before talking to your parents about a budget, logistics and what type of wedding you both envision.

GUEST LIST
Once the budget is set, figure out who you're going to invite. The Knot has a great online guest list manager. https://www.theknot.com/gs/guest-list

FAST, EASY & TASTY!

It's all about the cauliflower rice!

CAULIFLOWER GRILLED CHEESE

While there’s a certain satisfaction that comes from cooking a meal from scratch, there’s equal enjoyment when something tastes like it was made from scratch, but cooks in a fraction of the time. Trader Joe's sells frozen cauliflower stir fry and it's really tasty! (They call it a veggie party in a bag.)

It takes just 2 minutes to make and you can throw in some rotisserie chicken for protein. You're gonna wanna make 2 bags at once--because it's just as good the next day.

They also have "plain" cauliflower rice which can be used to make this bread-less grilled cheese. Check out the recipe below.
  1. Cut cauliflower into florets. Process cauliflower florets in a food processor until the texture resembles rice. Alternatively, you can grate the cauliflower.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine processed cauliflower, eggs, Parmesan and oregano. Mix until evenly combined then season with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Spray with cooking spray then scoop the cauliflower mixture into a small patty on one side of the pan. Repeat to form a second patty on the other side. (These are your “bread” slices.) Press down on both pieces with a spatula and cook until golden underneath, about 5 minutes. Flip and cook until the other sides are golden, about 3 minutes more.
  4. Top one cauliflower slice with cheese then place the other cauliflower slice on top. Cook until the cheese is melted, about 2 minutes more per side. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

When planning you're wedding you can feel completely overwhelmed. What you DO know is that you want your day to be special--and you want it to reflect your tastes.

Here are a few tidbits of information to give you some cool ideas to make your day special

Princess Bride
Everyone wants to feel like a princess on their special day and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Keep the dress simple—classic and elegant with minimal embellishments. And you’ll need a tiara, of course-b’cuz who doesn’t love a lil bling? https://www.theknot.com/fashion/wedding-tiaras

It IS easy being green!
More and more people become more environmentally conscious every year. So how can you have a more eco-friendly wedding? There are lots of little things you can do that are good for the environment.
  • Shop Local
When you’re planning your wedding menu, work with your caterer to discuss sourcing local fruits, veggies, seafood, and proteins.
  • BE Local
Add a local Bawlmer touch by ordering a fabulous Smith Island Cake, or create a snoball station (don’t forget the egg custard) or ice cream station with toppings including jimmies, Berger cookies, and Goetze’s caramels.
  • Recycled Stationery
From invites to thank you notes, using recycled materials is a great idea. You can even buy paper that contains seeds so your wedding can contribute beautiful flowers months after the big day!

  • Seasonal flowers
Natural weddings are very much in style, so go for flowers that are ethically produced and in-season. Planning your wedding around available natural products is a beautiful way to help the environment.

Do spas-not shots
Going out with your girlfriends the night before your wedding? Why not swap the shots for spa treatments? It's a more Zen way to spend your last night as a single woman and you’ll be relaxed and ready for your big day. Facials, mani/pedis, and massages—nothing like a lil self-care to escape the stress. Have you heard about goat yoga? If you’re an animal lover-you must check this out. https://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2018/09/12/goat-yoga-maryland/

Mother Nature
For a beautiful and completely customizable wedding, choose a location/venue with an outdoor space. There’s just something about being outside on your special day. Not convinced—or worried about the weather? Just do the cocktail hour outside and then move inside for the big party. And—you can bring the outdoors inside with tailored greenery, indoor trees, and a gorgeous flower wall.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Everybody wants a great photographer and videographer but—what about drones? Couples are increasingly opting for drones to film their special day from the air. You may also want to check out video mapping. It’s a projector that shines light or images onto the walls and floor, transforming your space into anything you want.

Going to NYC for a show, shopping or a visit with family?

Check out the first-ever GODIVA café in North America at Penn Station on the lower level. A second location is coming soon at 560 Lexington Avenue. People are talking about the Croiffle™, a hybrid of a croissant and waffle—yum!

I am SO going the next time I visit my son!
