CLC Scandinavia | October 2016

Dear EIT Health Scandinavia partners and friends,

With this second newsletter the Scandinavian CoLocation Center (CLC) of EWith this second newsletter the Scandinavian CoLocation Center (CLC) of EIT Health can report on a number of partner and CLC activities. We plan to distribute our newsletter in 2017 on a quarterly basis and we welcome contributions from our partners reporting on EIT Health related activities, meetings and events.

We have within EIT Health submitted our business plan for 2017 and are awaiting the final 2017 budget for our activities. In early October we held a bilateral matchmaking meeting with colleagues of the Spanish CLC in Barcelona and we are now looking forward to go back to Barcelona and join the EIT Health Summit 23-24 November. Representatives of our partners will meet a final time in 2016 in Vilnius, Estonia at 30 November.

Our big event in 2017 will be the matchmaking meeting 1-3 February in Uppsala. This will be the only matchmaking meeting of EIT Health and it is therefore very important that our partners join the meeting to explore the unique opportunity to establish collaborations as a basis for submission of applications to EIT Health – the next deadline is expected to be in April 2017.

Educational (Campus) activities are ongoing and our academic partners have organised summer schools and hosted an E-Lab event in Copenhagen. Next big activity will be the Innovation day in November organised by our university partners.

Within the Accelerator segment we have awarded Proof of Concept/Head Start support to small start up companies as well as providing support for Business plan Aggregator and Go Global activities.

We look forward to the upcoming events and to produce more activities in 2017 in support of innovation and healthy ageing!

The eight participating companies of the Go Global Medtech 2016 program – providing competence for international expansion – are getting ready to present their brand new internationalization strategies to a panel of pros from the world of medtech.
   – There is nothing as beneficial for an aspiring company as sharing practical experiences of those who have already taken their globalization journey, for this reason we build our program around intensive interaction with successful medtech companies, says Olof Berglund, Stockholm Innovation & Growth.

Danish pioneer program awarded EIT Label

Innovation in Health Care – the world’s first full two year master’s program of its kind – has been awarded the EIT Label. Facing globally acknowledged demographic challenges and needs for technological development in health care systems, this Danish pioneer is expected to soon be followed by similar educations around the world.
   – Our graduates will be the first of their kind and we forecast that they will have good opportunities to make significant positive differences in an area that will very soon need innovations at a more radical scale, says Finn Valentin, professor and study director at Copenhagen Business School.

Barcelona meeting braced Spanish-Scandinavian collaborations

67 participants – including 17 representatives from the Scandinavian CLC  – took part in the Bilateral meeting: Scandinavia – Spain in Barcelona, October 6th-7th to promote and strength Spanish and Scandinavian collaborations in EIT Health funding calls. Among many high-profile presentations were Symptoms Europe AB:s unique platform aiming to enable value based Healthcare
   – We are developing a generic tool for patients to report their symptoms using scientifically valid forms directly to their electronic health records. The data can then be used for clinical decision-making as well as new possibilities for monitoring disease. By allowing the patients to decide what to report, they will in effect set the agenda for the meeting with the caregiver, said Niclas Lindstedt, Symptoms Europe AB.
