March 27th - Principal's Update

Erie High School Parents & Students:

Thank you for your support of Erie High School and for your Tiger pride. I am looking forward to greeting students Monday morning as we return to in-person learning. My sincere hope is that all of our students will return to four days of in-person learning (unless your family situation will not allow for it).

When we return to school on Monday, students and staff will have nine weeks of learning before summer. There are some important things we need to accomplish as a school community before the end of the school year. At our last faculty meeting, I spoke with teachers and staff about the importance of taking time to check in with our students and to encourage them. Encouragement is so important, especially during tough times. EHS educators are proud of our students, and they deserve nothing but the best from the adults in their lives. The pandemic has robbed us, even though temporarily, of some of the rituals and routines that keep students engaged and happy at school and are an essential part of Erie High - time to check in with friends during passing periods, pep assemblies, attendance at athletic and performing arts events, the Walk of Champions. As the Covid dial goes down and we get back to a more normal routine this spring, we will do our best to bring back as many of the activities as possible that we lost on March 12th, 2020.

We are also going to finish the school year strong by staying focused on academic excellence in our classrooms. In a few weeks, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors across Colorado will take the PSAT and SAT. Our students have a strong tradition of showing up and performing well; I'm proud of their track record and I expect nothing different this year. Let's see how many St. Vrain high schools we can outperform:)

Lastly, my heart goes out to our amazing Class of 2021. I sent our seniors and their parents a separate letter this morning about senior celebrations and graduation, but I am asking all of our students and parents to pat our seniors on the back and help support the celebrations we have planned for them.

I am proud to be your principal, and it is an honor to lead a school with WORLD FAMOUS EDUCATORS and THE BEST KIDS IN AMERICA. As always, please contact me directly if you have questions or suggestions. Have a great week-end and GO TIGERS!

Sincerely,

Matt Buchler
