MEET AMINA.
Night-shift employee.
Gym member.
Former refugee.

Amina and her relatives arrived to the US in 2015. Wanting to break out on her own path, Amina decided to live on her own and moved into an apartment in Sharpsburg. She took a third shift job at Walmart stocking supplies. Amina also enrolled in English classes so she could improve her language skills.

Almost 3 years later, Amina is successfully and independently navigating life in Pittsburgh.

Amina has kept her job at Walmart but hopes to get a job closer to home with higher pay and better hours. She joined the gym at NAMS to stay healthy since the third shift can take a toll on her well-being. She continues to go to English classes, advancing in her reading, writing, and speaking. Her English has improved enough that she was able to get her driver's license!

Amina's goals are simple: learn English, keep a steady job, be able to maintain her lifestyle--and she continues to pursue them every day.

NAMS helps refugees become independent and self-sufficient through staff support and various programs that provide job placements and access to services. Your year-end donation can help others like Amina work towards self-sufficiency and a better future. Give the gift of independence this holiday season!
