Three printmakers working in intaglio are exhibited in this inky and dark-hued show. These well-crafted works offer diverse imagery, ranging from the natural world to the digital age. Cohesively, the prints have a velvety and mysterious quality achieved through the techniques of etching, drypoint, and photogravure. Learn More >

Summer Workshop:
Eco-Dyeing on Fabric
July 20, 10 am–4 pm | $155
Learn how to dye two silk scarves with leaves and other assorted materials. While the scarves are 'cooking,' you'll try the eco-dying process on handmade papers and bind them into a book. We will also take a field trip around Pyramid to identify plants that have dyeing potential, and learn how to create designs with rusty objects. Learn More >

Photo Lithography

Explore lithography using photo-sensitive aluminum litho plates. Create hand-drawn and digitally-produced photo positives, and learn proper exposure, development, and printing of photo litho plates. Learn More >

Bookbinding II
July 21, 12–6pm | $155
Further your bookbinding skills with two more advanced sewing structures, including long-stitch and a hard cover binding with sewn-over tapes. These two structures will allow for the binding of thicker books, which will be ideal in the creation of journals or sketchbooks. Learn More >

Flower Folds on Mini Accordion Books

We’ll have bone folders handy, paper trimmed to size, and PVA a plenty. We’ll show you how to make mini accordion books that incorporate printed scraps neatly hidden into flower folds. With its secretive potential, these make a great zine or gift. Learn More >

Writing the Illustrated Book: Focus on Narrative Structure

Batik & Adire
(Indigo Tie Dye)

In this class, artist Yemisi Ajayi covers the two types of traditional resist techniques for batik and indigo tie dye: immersion dyeing using melted wax and naturally-produced indigo dyes, applied to natural fabrics. You will learn tool usage, application of natural colors, setting, finishing, and presenting the dyed fabric.

Large-Scale Fabric Screenprinting

Ever thought about printing your own curtains, fabric or wallpaper? Learn how to print improvisationally onto large papers or fabric in this class. Working from your own design, you'll have the chance to layer and overlap multiple colors of ink using transparent base. Learn More >

Make Deeper Impressions!

All Around the Mulberry Bush
August 3 & 4, 10 am–4 pm | $310
In this two-day workshop, papermaking expert Megan Heeres explores two distinct kinds of Mulberry plant. Students will learn how to identify, process, and turn common White mulberry (Moracea morus) plants and Kozo (Moracea brossonetia) fibers into beautiful papers. Learn More >

WANTED: Youth Education Teaching Artists
Like working with kids? Have a background in papermaking, printmaking, or book arts? Have weekday availability? If so, let's chat!  Educators work with Pyramid staff and volunteers to bring hands-on art education to students. The ideal candidates to be added to our teaching roster will have visual arts teaching experience and enjoy working in schools and/or social service organizations. To apply, please send a letter of interest and a current resume to Jen Sheckels.
Call for Thursday Evening Studio Manager
Are you passionate and responsible about printmaking, papermaking and/or artist books? Apply to our open work-exchange position! In exchange for managing the studios on Thursday evenings, the studio manager will receive a key to the building and 24-hour access to studios to work on their own art. Learn More >

For a flat monthly rate, Art Gym members can work on an unlimited basis in our printmaking, papermaking, bookbinding, or screenprinting studios during open hours. Commit to your creativity, and enjoy working alongside a community of artists! Visiting Artist Housing Needed
Do you have an extra room? Would you be willing to host one of Pyramid's visiting artists? We have artists coming in from all over the country to work here. They need a place to crash between 2 days and four weeks. If you live near Pyramid and have some extra room, let us know! Contact Gretchen for more info.
