The Artist at Pine Needles project provides a work environment to artists whose work focuses on environmental or natural history topics. I spent three weeks near Marine on St. Croix wandering prairies and woods, and learning from the St. Croix Watershed Research Station scientists to link "art with science and science with art."
I developed new insights to the almost daily changes in the prairies and I adopted new composition ideas and printing strategies as I made a series botanical prints using plants harvested from
the Pine Needles prairies and woodlands.
The image below shows a canvas drying in front of
the beautiful background of the St. Croix River.
"A Day in July" is composed of plants harvested from
the Tanglewood Prairie site,
printed on pigmented cotton muslin. 36" x 24" $1000
