This week at SOTH

This past Sunday's gospel text about Mary and Martha reminded us all that both doing and listening are integral to the life of the Christian.  And trying to serve without the nourishment of dwelling in God's Word only dries us up and wears us out.  We need both!  So, as you go about your week, remember to take moments throughout the day to stop and dwell in God's Word or take a moment to pray.  For the one thing needed is Jesus.

May God's peace be with you this week.

Lutherans Restoring Creation Care Workshop-Saturday, August 20
You are invited to attend the Creation Care Workshop on Saturday, August 20, at the Pallottine Renewal Center in Florissant, MO.  Yes, right here in our own backyard!!
The workshop is designed to engage people in the work of creation care.  With our unique Lutheran ‘toolbox’ we’ll explore strategies and create action plans to incorporate care for creation into the these areas of congregational life:  worship - educational programs - property - buildings and grounds - discipleship of members at home and work - public ministry and advocacy.
No matter what you call it…Creation Care, Earth-keeping, Green Team…or whether your ministry is a future plan, just beginning, or already successful and established, we invite you to join us in the beautiful setting of the Pallottine Renewal Center in Florissant.  Gathering begins at 9:00 and the workshop will run from 9:30-3:30.The cost for each individual is $25 which includes lunch and snacks. If that cost is prohibitive, please contact Pastor Noni Strand at
Registration is open on the Central States Synod website:  www.css-elca/lrc.  The direct link is

G.I.F.T. Growing in Faith Together is a time for all ages to come together and bring your friends!.  On specific Wednesday evenings this summer, we will gather together from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. here at Church to share a meal, tell a story, and spend time in fellowship activities using "An Illustrated Earth" curriculum.  (The coloring posters are back!) We will hear water stories, plant and food stories, animal stories and each event will be shaped by YOU.  You can also participate with these events while you are away on vacation.  There are "flat earth" signs that you can take with you wherever you go this summer on vacation.  Take a picture of you with your sign, and celebrate that YOU were there Celebrating God's Creation. Post your photo with the hashtag #AnIllunstratedEarth to join your picture with others across the country who are participating in the same curriculum.

The next St. Ann Food Truck Night is Thursday, July 28 at St. Ann Park, Pavilion #1, 4445 Ashby Road. Thank you to Julie Hutson for signing up to host Shepherd of the Hill's table, but we need two more people. Also, we want to use this Food Truck Night to help publicize our Book Fair on July 30.  Many thanks to everyone who has helped.

We will be having a Book Fair, Bake Sale and Raffle here at Shepherd of the Hills on Saturday, July 30 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m..  Look through your books to find those you would like to donate. You can bring them to Church and can put them in the Senior High Classroom. The proceeds from the Book Fair will benefit Joni and Friends, Humanitri and The Bridge. There will also be a Bake Sale to benefit WELCA during the Book Sale.  Please bring your goodies to sell.  Also, the Men's Group will be serving hot dogs and chips.  There will also be a raffle.  There will be a Kid's Bag and an Adult Bag that will be raffled off.  What a fun morning!  If you have any questions, please ask Pat Amick.  Her phone number is 314-551-0389.  She also needs box lids and bags for purchased books. Pat does need help on Thursday and Friday (July 28 and July 29) from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.before the sale to get the books ready for the sale on Saturday.  Many, many Thanks to Sarah Smith Mollin for the beautiful Flyer you made to announce the Book Sale.  These flyers are on the table in the Fellowship Area.  Please take one, and put it out to advertise the Book Fair.  Also, many Thanks to Community Helping Ministry for donating all their books to our Book Fair.

Community Helping Ministry needs some help.  They need help on Monday mornings at their pantry.  CHM also needs help on Wednesdays in their office.  Please call 314-770-2216 if you are interested.  The Lawn Concert sponsored by CHM in June raised over $1,000.  Thank you to everyone who donated.  Also many thanks to everyone who donated school supplies for the backpacks that Community Helping Ministry supplies to youth. Many Thanks to Linda and Tom Ritter for always connecting us to Community Helping Ministry.  Also Thank You for bringing all the school supplies collected at Church to CHM.
