Administrative Update

Summer is flying by! It is amazing to think that the start of school is around the corner. We begin this year celebrating our 50th anniversary year as a school! This is a momentous occasion at A.D. Henderson & FAU High School and all of you are invited to share the experience with us. Look for more detailed information in the August Parent Newsletter.
Congratulations to the entire A.D. Henderson & FAU High School family on earning our 18th consecutive “A” school grade! This is a testament to all of the hard work and dedication of staff, students, and parents. I look forward to the new year as we embark on our continuous improvement, creative innovation and ongoing success for all of our school community.
We Are Listening
Parent survey feedback indicated a desire for more access to administration to discuss new ideas and improvements. Beginning this year, I will host quarterly Parent Coffee Chats. The first chat will be Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 8:10 – 9:00 a.m. This is a time for you to meet with me and discuss growth opportunities, celebrate successes, and address important topics that impact the school.  Please consider taking some time to attend and share in the conversation!
Additionally, in an effort to streamline communication with administration and provide improved support and responsiveness, the assistant principals will be your first point of contact. Below are their assigned responsibilities and emails

As we continue to focus on student safety and campus security, the leadership team has reflected and worked closely with Officer Banner on developing a comprehensive safety plan that includes a mental health component. The safety of students and staff is our number one priority.  In particular, you will notice changes in pick-up and dismissal as final preparations for new systems and procedures are being implemented. Please understand that there may be growing pains; however, we are confident that if we are all work together, this will be the safest way to dismiss our students. Please look for updated safety information and dismissal procedures for the upcoming school year in the August newsletter.

While You Were Away

Summer is always a busy place at Henderson. Each year, there are summer camp programs running, in addition to all of the preparations for the next school year. This summer four of our faculty were invited to present at ISTE 2018 - the International Society for Technology in Education conference in Chicago. Mrs. Schram, Mrs. O’Sullivan, Mrs. Pavek and Mrs. Rubin represented ADHUS - showing off the awesome work of our students- to over 18,000 attendees from every state and 87 different countries. This is our way of making a global impact on education!
The ADHUS Middle School SECME team also had the opportunity to compete in an “invitation only” Engineering Design competition at Embry Riddle University. With the hard work of students, Joah, Ashley, Vinu, Cameron, under the leadership of Mr. James Nance, they won the national championship.
During the week of June 25th, approximately 65 in-coming 9th grade students attended H2O to Go at the FAU Jupiter Campus. Students experienced firsthand exploration of current environmental issues and research impacting South Florida region specifically relating to water. Engaging in reflective decision-making, students demonstrated the ability to interact with the community and each other. The freshmen are already building friendships, as they look forward to starting the school year. Welcome Class of 2022!
Finally, as you and your child are enjoying the last weeks of summer vacation, please take some time to review the following information for the 2018-19 school year. Make sure you pay careful attention to summer assignments, school supplies, and important dates for upcoming year.
Report cards were sent home in the mail with available State score reports. Any additional score reports received will be distributed accordingly. Also, please take a few minutes to review the information on free and reduced lunch requirements, upcoming uniform vendor dates, and required documentation to properly begin the school year. Finally, double-check the information in Focus and update any changes in telephone numbers, email, or address with the front office staff. We will continue to send out informational alerts as necessary.

Upcoming School Reminders


Please mark your calendars for Friday, July 20, 2018. Wizard Creations, our uniform vendor, will be on campus in the Media Center from 9 am until 12 pm to support parents with uniform needs. They will be taking orders and delivering pre-orders that were placed through the online store. In addition, A.D Henderson & FAU High School will have staff available to assist with any uniform dress code questions, along with free and reduced lunch verifications. If you have not ordered your uniforms, please visit the online store.

Meet the Teacher 2018

A.D. Henderson University School will be hosting Meet the Teacher 2018 on Friday, August 10th, for families with students entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Meet the Teacher 2018 is a great time for you to drop-off school supplies (unless you already ordered online!). Times vary, so please refer to the flyer for specific information on times.

Classroom assignments and middle school schedules will be available for students and parents in FOCUS, our online school portal, on Thursday, August 9th. We urge parents to please print and bring your child’s schedule to fully take advantage of Meet the Teacher 2018.

Please join parents, faculty, and staff before, after, and during your "Meet the Teacher" event at the Parent Lounge, located in the Media Center. You will be able to learn about all of the happenings at A.D. Henderson University School.

School Supplies

We have only four weeks left before we start the 2018-2019 school year. While we are working on summer assignments and trying to enjoy family time don't forget to start preparing your school supplies. I know you want to take advantage of the many sales that will be coming up at your local stores. Please review the grade level supply list located on the A.D. Henderson website or here.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications & 2nd Semester Fees (2018-2019)

The Free/Reduced Lunch application is now available at Qualifying under this process will provide your child with Free or Reduce hot lunch options for the 2018-2019 school year. This application must be completed each year – even if you have qualified in the past. Please make sure you complete the application ASAP as your qualification will provide an adjustment to your child’s Activity Fees for the 2018-2019 school year. Please be advised that the balance of student Activity Fees for all students were due July 15, 2018. Parents with reduced student activity fees in 2017-2018, that do not qualify for Free/Reduced lunch in 2018-2019, will be responsible for the balance of your student(s) fees. If you have any questions or concerns, please email

Summer Assignments & Resources

A.D. Henderson instructors have provided students with grade level assignments & resources to work on this summer. These activities are designed to reinforce what students have already learned and prepare them for the upcoming school year. Please visit the summer resources page for more information. Parents please work with your children to utilize these important resources and complete appropriate assignments.

2018-2019 Aftercare Program

The Henderson After School Program (HASP) is currently accepting student applications for the 2018-19 school year. Brianne Allen and Gina Sands are the directors, and Christine Walsh is the Office Manager. We also have many returning counselors. HASP will start the first day of school, so please turn in your applications before school starts. The application and fee schedule for 2018-19 are included for your reference and convenience.   

Marketplace Enhancements for Payments

We are excited to inform you about recent enhancements to Marketplace, our fee payment system. These changes will allow you to make payments to your accounts more efficiently. Should you need to make any payments to your student’s account, the links are below for your convenience.

Cafeteria Review

Each year SLA Management, our cafeteria service, sends out a satisfaction survey to review their performance during the school year. Please take a few moments to review the cafeteria service. During the school year, SLA Management also shares a monthly newsletter. It’s a great way to be informed about our cafeteria offerings.

School Lunch Information

As we welcome the 2018-2019 school year, we would like to advise you of our new lunch fees. Cost for lunch will increase from $3.00 per day to $3.25 per day. In order to monitor your student’s lunch account, please create an SLA profile. This will allow you to check your lunch balance throughout the year and review any additional charges.

7th Grade Tdap Vaccine Requirement

The State of Florida requires students entering, repeating, or transferring into 7th grade to provide documentation for the tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. This requirement is in addition to the grade-appropriate immunization requirements.

The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). Tdap replaces one tetanus booster. Pertussis is a very serious disease that causes coughing spells that make it hard to eat, drink, and even breathe. It can also cause pneumonia, seizures, brain damage, and death.

The original certificate of documentation from (DH 680) that allows your child's Tdap immunization prior to entering 7th grade must be submitted to the school by Monday, August 13, 2018. If you do not provide this form by this date, your child will not be allowed to stay in school until the DH 680 form is turned into the front office.

Talk to your child's health care provider for more information on the Tdap vaccine. Do not wait to schedule an appointment. No exceptions will be made for students who cannot get an appointment before the start of school. Immunization appointments can be made at Palm Beach County Health Centers or at your child's healthcare provider. PTO Events

Your A.D. Henderson & FAU High School PTO is always looking for new ways to reach all members of the school community and share event information with parents across grade levels. Every year, your PTO hosts football tailgates, the Halloween Howl, Thanksgiving Feast, Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day breakfasts, Elementary Field Day, Color Run, two Book Fairs, STEM Nights, the annual auction, and so much more. In addition, the PTO actively supports middle & high school dances, field days, and academic events with funding and volunteers. The organization also helps sponsor school events like Fleet Week, Teacher Professional Development Day lunches, charity drives, field trips, school uniforms, Friday Folders, meet the teacher day, grade level Open Houses, and the list goes on. Teachers also seek PTO resources and members for classroom needs, parties, and educational resources.
There are already events in the works for next year. One big event the PTO Board is working on is a football tailgate for the FAU vs Air Force Game on September 8th. If you are interested in tickets and tailgating at the school, please complete the Google Form.

All of these events and requirements need volunteers and your support, please become an active PTO member and help your school! An easy way to access up-to-date information and additional volunteer opportunities is to become an ADHUS/FAU High parent member on the NEW and improved PTO Website. You can also come out and meet the PTO Board at the Meet the Teacher events. The group will be selling school spirit gear and gently used uniforms through Twice as Nice.

Elementary Music Notes

Welcome to your summer! While I am enjoying traveling and relaxing with my family and puppies, I am working on some wonderful musical plans for our new year!
Below are several of the musical events and notes for 2018-2019:
Recitals: Our recitals are for students who are taking private music lessons­­, i.e. voice, piano, guitar, violin­­, etc., to share their work with one another and to practice performing. Watch and plan for mid­-October and mid-­April.
Music Club: We will be working on and performing our annual musical in the fall this year. Auditions will be early September with the performance in early December. Our musical this year will be Phantom TollBooth, a Broadway Junior show. It’s based on a lovely book by the same name and would be a great read for your summer!
Talent Show: I’ll be looking for well-prepared acts from 4th & 5th graders early in the second semester for a performance in May. NOTE: Both of the above productions will need a stage manager, backstage workers, technology manager and an assistant director.
K­-5 Music Students: I would like to encourage you all to register with Class DoJo in August. I find this the easiest way to communicate directly with classes and clubs. I will send home registration information through the Friday folder.
3-­5 Music Students: All 3rd grade students and new 4th and 5th grade students will need a pocket folder next year. I have recycled/saved all folders from this year’s 3rd and 4th grade students, but you are free to make a new choice.
Keep singing and dancing! And be sure to enjoy some relaxing time with your families!

SumDog Summer Contest

All students completing grade K-5 have been entered in the school 2018 Summer SumDog Contest. So far this summer our students have correctly answered over 65,000 math questions! The top 25 students will be invited to a pool party in the fall.


SECME National Champions!

The A.D. Henderson Middle School SECME team earned the opportunity to compete in the SECME Olympiad National Championship for the second year in a row after winning the Palm Beach Regional championship with their mousetrap powered car. Last year’s rookie team was proud to bring the Second Place trophy back to Boca Raton after competing at the University of Alabama, but was hungry for the top spot this year. The regional champion team consisted of Chloe Reeves, Joah Levine and Deborah Faerman, however, Cameron McMullen, Ashley Ulbrich and Vinu Suthakaran stepped in as alternate team members joining Joah and the club sponsor, James Nance, for the National event at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. The team’s engineering presentation, technical report, technical drawing and thrilling mousetrap car performance earned them the 1st place Champion spot in the nation, besting teams who each represent the best of hundreds of other teams in their regions. The team was ecstatic to hoist the National Championship trophy after a long year of hard work and only their second year of competition. The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies ADHUS SECME Team won the Overall Regional SECME Championship for Palm Beach. The Regional team placed 1st and 2nd in Mousetrap Car, 1st and 2nd in FPL Generator, 2nd and 3rd in Rockets and 2nd and HM in the Balsa Bridge.

2018-2019 School Year Sport Schedules

The 2018-2019 seasons will begin this summer with volleyball and we are offering an open gym for those who are interested. We encourage all students to get involved in sports, however, all students must meet the eligibility requirements and submit required forms prior to attending practice. The eligibility requirements and participation forms (EL2 and EL3) are available on our website. In addition to the eligibility forms, the FHSAA is requiring all students athletes to complete a three-hour training course for the 2018-2019 school year. The elementary and middle-grade students will have the opportunity to complete the courses during the school year. However, the high school students must complete the courses prior to participating in any sport. Once the course is completed, please email your certificate to prior to attending practice.
