As you may have seen in the news, there is a new strain of ransomware called WannaCrypt which has affected a number of large businesses including the NHS. Microsoft has released a patch which, once installed, will stop it spreading from one computer to another. We have installed this on your servers for you.
We can apply this patch automatically on workstations that access Equinox directly rather than through remote desktop. We will be installing this over the coming days. Once we have set it up on your system you might find that a black screen will appear just after the network login prompt. Once it has completed you may be prompted to restart your computer. We recommend that you close any open programs and restart straight away. Once that has completed, the patch is installed.
This patch will not stop a computer becoming infected, it will just stop it spreading from one computer to another. The best way to avoid becoming infected is to be very careful when opening email attachments or clicking on links in emails, even ones from people you know. If you want a copy of the guide that we made previously about ransomware, then just let us know.
