Spreading Masks for Safety

The great mask project in St. Rock has been incredible. Thanks to the grant from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which provided over a thousand dollars to further their greater work in providing masks to needed communities, these masks have already made a world of difference just in Haiti. Since completing over two-thousand masks, we've been able to distribute them to many people and organizations!

As with many places, masks in Haiti are required in public places. Without prior access to a mask, it made everyday living very hard. From not being able to go to a store, to not even being able to go to work, people struggled. Here's the impact a simple mask has made:
“Everywhere we go like institution, market, and office they require people to wear mask so you can be admit in. Thanks BIH supporters for their free masks, they are really helpful, washable and comfortable thanks to Jeannine and Whitney (BIH group)” - Sophia, a St. Rock community member
Masks saved employment for many as well:
“We are hard construction worker, to get hire we need to have a mask , thanks to BIH who make it possible. Also that prevent us to get infected by the virus , thanks” -Stanley, St. Rock community member

Masks have also helped while the community arrives at the feeding program, helping everyone safely collect food for their families.
Our cook, DouDou, said “Social distancing! Mask wearing! Washing hands, that’s all we learn during this pandemic period, but big thanks to BIH for this sewing program! And all the kids get mask to wear during the feeding program. Thanks for making the difference to give free mask instead of selling them.”

We love that people are able to get food, necessities, and employment from a simple thing like having a mask. Another great impact has been the ability for healthcare to supply masks to patients. Dr. Eloy of the St. Rock Haiti Foundation said of the masks:
“Thank you for the 1000 masks put at our disposal. We have two spaces reserved for suspected patients and the health center which continues with the various services. In Macaco and Bizoton where we have members of MSPP who carry out the tests for the patients who agree to do it. We decided to put 200 masks in Macaco and 100 mask in Bizoton and the rest is at the level of the health center of Saint Rock. This strategy was adopted because it was decided to receive patients only with masks so patients who arrive without a mask receive 1 from an agent. We gave100 to the Catholic church, because there start services.”

Sometimes it's easy to take the little things, like a mask, for granted. But they didn't take it for granted. Haiti is so deserving, and they show appreciation for every opportunity and kindness. We feel so blessed and grateful to be able to work in such a community.

We are so proud of Menio, who recently got accepted into dental school! With a great smile like that, it seems a great path for him. And we are grateful to Cary LaCouture of Burning Tree Dental / Creekside Dental who generously donated some starting supplies for Menio!

The last few months brought a lot of goats to St. Rock! We continue building fences to help contain them and allow them ample space to thrive.
