Lancaster Train Show
Our first annual Train Show was a big success.  We had a beautiful day and a great turnout.

Thanks to all the vendors and operating layout exhibitors. Because of you we have had an overwhelming number of requests to repeat the show again next year. We already have the date booked (March 24th) and have started planning on how to make the next show even better.

To that end we anticipate a greater partnership with the FORKS model airplane club and plan on presenting the first ever Hobby Expo in the Fairfield County area. We will have more details on that as plans progress.

The Box of Rocks
Although not entirely complete, our rock crawling pit "The Box of Rocks", is now open. Bring your own rock crawler and run for as long as you like for only $5. Or bring us a rock (no concrete please) and run for free that day. If you do not have your own rock crawler, or are new to the hobby and wish to try it out, you can rent ours for $10/hr.

The Hocking Valley Model Railroad Club
The Hocking Valley Model RR Club is starting to make real progress on their club layout (located in side the shop). The bench work for the first level is up, the lower staging yard is starting to be assembled, and the helix to connect the two is under construction. The club meets on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. at the shop. New members are welcome and you can get additional information by calling the shop at 740-653-0404. The Smoke Stack Hobby Shop Celebrates 40 Years
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the SSHS. Dale Kennedy (assisted by longtime friend Ray Mulrooney), opened the shop in 1977 on the "hill". The original location was on Main St., on the hill just east of Broad St. Many of our current customers can remember shopping with Dale at the original location. Dale soon outgrew that space and moved the business to the other side of Memorial Dr, (Lincoln Ave.) in the small strip center adjacent to our current store. Soon, that space became too small and Dale again relocated the business to the building next to the strip center. After 37 successful years, Dale was ready to retire and begin the next chapter of his life. That's when we stepped in and purchased the business. We too soon felt the need to expand, and last November moved to our current location at 342 Lincoln.

We plan on holding a 40th Anniversary celebration this summer. We hope to bring Dale (and hopefully Ray) back for a day and give everyone a chance to meet our "founding father". In a day when hobby shops are getting harder and harder to find, we are so happy that Dale managed to create and sustain a thriving business. EVENTS
Kite Fly-Out
The Fairfield County Historical Parks is hosting a Kite Fly-Out on April 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will be held at Smeck Historical Farm at 7395 Basil Rd. in Baltimore.

Smeck Historical Farm is one of the newest additions to the Farifield County Parks roster of historic locations. Stop by and see all the work done to the park and bring a glider or kite to fly too. Directions can be found here.

If you don't own a kite or a drone, The Smoke Stack Hobby Shop mobile unit will be there with kites, gliders, and maybe even a drone demo.

Operation Lifesaver
Join us in shop on May 6th for an Operation Lifesaver Clinic at 2:00 p.m. operation Lifesaver conducts free clinics on highway-rail grade crossing safety and rail trespass prevention.

One of the services we offer here at The Smoke Stack Hobby Shop is consignment. If you own or inherit a large collection of train items and don't know how to dispose of them, we can help. You can bring the items into the shop, or we can come and collect them (limited to the central Ohio vicinity). We will clean and test your items. We sell in-store and online so we reach a large market. Give us a call at the shop for more details on our consignment service.

3rd Annual R/C Day at the Fairgrounds
Coming again this June 25th is the 3rd annual R/C Day at the Fairgrounds. We are already hard at work on this year's preparations. We plan on having some some new food concessions available too. More details will follow in the next newsletter.

4th Annual SSHS Field Trip
Also this year is our 4th annual SSHS Field Trip. This year we will be heading to Coshocton, Ohio to the Millcreek Central Railroad for the Buckeye Limited Convention on Saturday, August 12th. The Millcreek Central is a live steam railroad built to 1/8 scale. There are also diesels in addition to steam. We will be riding the trains and you can explore the extensive grounds. Visit the web site link above to see the scope of this very large scale railroad. As usual we will be busing up from the SSHS and the day will include a lunch stop. We are still working on those details and once they are finalized we will be posting the ticket prices for this year's trip.
