What is Sciatica?
Sciatica (or in layman’s terminology lumbago) is an impingement of the sciatic nerve either from the lower (lumbar) spine or along the sciatic route (through the Gluteal [buttock] region and lower limb). One or more of the following can be experienced: pain, pins & needles, numbness and/or loss of power in one or both legs. Sometimes pain can be absent in sciatica!
Pain or these other symptoms can affect both legs, and though it most commonly runs down the back of the legs, it can manifest at the front or side too.
