DPA Bubble Hui - tomorrow


At our Bubble Hui tomorrow we will be exploring Disability and Education, in particular focusing on the new guidelines to be developed around physical restraint.

Come along and learn what the recent changes in the Education and Training Bill mean for physical restraint.

Share solutions that have worked for you and your whānau in terms of prevention and de-escalation.

When: Saturday 5 September

What time: 3.00pm  – 4.30pm

Where: Zoom (all members will be emailed a link on the morning of the hui)

-NZSL interpreters will be present at this event
-This is a national event, members from around the country are invited to attend

About our Bubble Hui

Our Bubble Hui started during the Level 4 lock-down as a way for members to meet and discuss current issues online via Zoom. We are now continuing them monthly, alternating between Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. We aim to discuss a different topic each month.

Cyber Bullying and the Law - free legal education series


Register now for Auckland Disability Law's (ADL) next free legal education series on Zoom.

This introductory session will cover our cyber bullying law and where to get help. It is a great opportunity to learn how to keep ourselves and those around us safe online.

Voting and Referendums - Easy Read information now available


The 2020 General Election will be held on 17 October. This year there are also two referendums that you can vote on. 

The Electoral Commission have now updated their Easy Read guide to voting

Information about the referendums is also available in other accessible formats (audio, braille, dyslexic-friendly, large print, HTML and New Zealand Sign Language)

Vacancy - Wellington City Council Senior Accessibility Advisor


Fixed term role - 12 months
 

Wellington City Council have a vacancy for a Senior Accessibility Advisor.

The role will lead Council's approach to Universal Design within the accessibility sector and provide input into significant work streams which impact on the future liveability of the city.

The advisor will be responsible for the inception, development and oversight of strategic and operational projects which will deliver improved outcomes in accessibility, inclusion and improved wellbeing.

They will also take an active role in the Emergency Welfare steering group, supporting a programme of work which ensures an effective response and recovery is delivered for people and animals during and following an emergency event.

They will ensure that best practice Universal Design is embedded in all stages and across all project types, including strategic, and those of place (such as streetscape improvements and public space upgrades).
