November 2019
Wow what can I say, what an amazing weekend and I think we can safely say we've officially kicked off our Festival of Christmas with a bang. We hope many of you managed to take advantage of the thousands of visitors we had to the town centre on Saturday, early reports show we had more than 10,000 visitors join us for our event.

People travelled far and wide to attend the event. We've heard on the grapevine (through Facebook and people we spoke to) that people even travelled down from Birmingham to see JLS star, Aston Merrygold, switch the lights on. Joining Aston, we welcomed the Wyvern Theatre's panto stars, Michelle Collins and Chris Jarvis, BBC Wiltshire's Ben Prater and Sam York, performers from Swindon Dance and Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts and local singers Billy and Louis. The weather was fortunately on our side and the event finished in style with our popular fireworks display.

As well as the main event, we held a selection of market stalls on Havelock Square with a mix of traders bringing more festivities to the town.

I would like to extend a personal thank you to our sponsors who have supported us during the lead up and the night of the event:

Welcome to our new Working Group Members

We'd like to welcome two new members to the 'Clean and Well-Maintained' Working Group:
- Connor Farrelly, Solutions Recruitment

Our Focus for 2020 is to tie in the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign which takes place in Spring 2020 and we'll be encouraging businesses to be proud of their 'place' in Swindon town centre. For the summer months, we'll be looking to enhance the floral displays and inspiring businesses to have Swindon town centre in bloom.
Safe and Friendly

Operation Dasher
As previous years, Wiltshire Police will be launching 'Operation Dasher', an initiative to keep visitors and businesses safe over the festive period.

'Operation Dasher' will see officers, PCSOs and special constables on foot patrols on a daily basis in the town centre until Christmas Eve.

This annual seasonal campaign will once again be supported by our Street Team Ambassadors,  inSwindon Bid’s Street Team, Swindon Borough Council CCTV operators, and store security staff.

We'll bring more on this once it has officially been launched by Wiltshire Police at our next Day Safe meeting on 26th November.

Business Support
Heritage Action Zone
You may have heard that Historic England has declared the area around Swindon’s Railway Village to be a Heritage Action Zone.

This five year initiative will bring much needed funding (£1.6million) and expertise to support the Council and other local organisations to revitalise the area.

Find out more on the project and what's involved.
The All Seasons at MECA
Scintillating vocals and incredible harmonies bring to life the music of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. Accompanied by a five piece band, the All Seasons perform in the glittering themed world of A Fairytale in New York. The All Seasons present a show that will wow fans of the 'Jersey Boys' sound and there's a special Show Only rate of £8 for inSwindon BID members (dinner optional extra)!
