BID Member Newsletter

September 2019
How did we get into September? That's the summer over, and what a summer it was. Our Swindon Town Centre Festival was hugely successful, with plenty of coverage, print, radio and TV, really putting the town centre on the map! You'll find out more on the success later in the newsletter where you can download the full report. But, with the summer behind us, that means one thing... Christmas! Yes that's right, Christmas preparations are well underway. We're just finalising the finer details and we're inviting you all to join us for our launch on 9th October at the Wyvern Theatre as we reveal all.

We've also got our Student Lock Down at the end of the month - Monday 30th September. I'm delighted to see so many BID members getting involved. I look forward to seeing the town bustling with activity and the students taking full advantage of what the town centre has to offer.

The Street Team play an integral role in supporting town centre businesses and last month, through loss prevention training, saved businesses £1,311 and year to date £42,123.76. There's more on this and their monthly activity included within the town centre infographic.

With so much going on, I'll leave you to catch-up on all the latest town centre news and hopefully see you at our Christmas launch.

Working Group Get involved

Earlier this week, we sent a note out on behalf of Rob Faulkner, the Chair of the Clean and Well-Maintained Working Group looking for volunteers to join the Working Group.
We've had a couple of volunteers come forward, but if you'd like to know more about what's involved, download the last Project Campaign Summary

Gum Buster Machine
The gum buster is now out in full force with a rota between  McDonalds, The Brunel Shopping Centre and our inSwindon Caretaker, Freddie, to maximise its coverage and usage for the town. During the Keep It Clean campaign in May, Freddie removed 198 pieces of gum. With the new rota we hope to keep the momentum up and keep our town centre clean.
Safe and Friendly
This week has seen the start of a 2-week knife amnesty across Wiltshire. This year Wiltshire Police have three additional locations in Swindon - Broadgreen Community Centre, Pinetrees Community Centre in Pinehurst and the Town Centre Policing point.
