Dear Friend,

We would like to invite you to join us for an evening of exciting programming on the upcoming election night on Tuesday , November 3rd. We have partnered with the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg to organize a live stream including a panel discussion and some short lectures to help pass the time until the results of the initial exit polls start to roll in.

Programming by Bucerius will begin at 9:00 pm and go until the wee hours of the night. Prior to this, the American Club will gather virtually via Zoom at 8:00 pm with a Tailgate Party moderated by David Scott Zeller to kick off what will certainly be an interesting night.

Both events are free of charge.

8 pm Tailgate Party hosted by The American Club

9 pm Bucerius Election Night Event (registration is required via Eventbrite):

Once you have registered, you will receive the link for the live stream and the American Club internal kickoff.

We hope that you will join us! Please find the invitation from Bucerius Law School and the program below.

Kind regards,

Annalee McWilliams

The country mourns over 200,000 deaths due to COVID-19, is sliding toward a recession and has become deeply polarized – not only when it comes to the polls. Since August, Joseph Biden has been the Democratic nominee facing the Republican incumbent Donald Trump in the general election. It has been a contentious election cycle that has become even more so since the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

You are cordially invited to spend election night with us via live stream. In cooperation with the American Club of Hamburg and the ZEIT-Stiftung,

we are going to present an interesting program on Tuesday, November 3, starting at 9 pm that will help us all pass the time until the first exit polls around midnight German time.

After a welcome note from U.S. Consul General Darion Akins , journalist David Patrician will host the evening. He will lead a panel of four in a discussion of the polarization of U.S. society (guests: Lieutenant General Frederick Benjamin Hodges III , Professor Susan Simone Kang , Boston College Law School, Jiffer Bourguignon , Editor, Leibnitz Information Centre for Economics and Annalee McWilliams , Director, American Club of Hamburg).

After the panel, Professor Susan Simone Kang will give an overview of what comes next. What is going to happen if there is no final result within a couple of days after the election?

Bucerius alumnus Kilian Wegner will share his own experience with the political campaigning process in the leadup to the 2016 election.

We are looking forward to an interesting election night with you,

Inga Diercks-Ferm, Miriam Jobst and Paul Strothmann (organization team).
