Greetings, friends,
This Sunday is Palm Sunday, our introduction into Holy Week. This is a time of deep reflection and contemplation. In years past this would mean special events and worship services would take place to help you in those moments of reflection and contemplation. However, out of an abundance of love and care for one another we are not permitted to gather for worship through April 12th. That means our celebrations of Palm Sunday and Easter will be done differently.
Last night Pastor Daryl shared a Facebook video with you detailing how we will mark these Holy Days. If you have not seen it, we encourage you to give it a listen. You can find it here, Facebook Video.
For Palm Sunday, Faye and Bree came up with a wonderful idea to invite you to send in a picture of yourself, or of you and your family, waving palm branches. We will use them in worship this Sunday as the background images for the first song in each service. You can email those images to We will also celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion this week. The video above explains the reasoning of how we can do this from our own homes. You are invited to procure bread of some sort or a cracker, and grape juice or water, and have those ready during the live stream so we can share in this meal at the end of each service.
For Maundy Thursday, Pastor Daryl and Joey Landstedt will live stream a worship experience at 7pm that night. Again, we will offer you the chance to partake in the Sacrament of Holy Communion in this service, using the same guidelines from above. Through music and a dramatic reading, we will walk you through the events of that night; the foot washings, the meal, the betrayal, and the arrest.
Then on Good Friday, Pastors Debbie and CJ, along with Diane Wright, will lead you in a version of a Tenebrae Service at 12pm. The Tenebrae is an ancient Christian Good Friday service that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial.
Holy Saturday, we will all be mindful of that day of solitude and leave that day fallow.
Also, last Easter we immersed ourselves in a ‘Journey through Holy Week’. We walked through elaborately decorated stations that began with Jesus’ triumphal entry and ended at the empty tomb as we remembered the resurrection of Christ with a celebration. This year, while we are physically distant from one another, we wanted to give your family the opportunity to continue this journey in your own home. We’ve created a Video Walk-Through to be viewed with easy to use devotional curriculum that we call Journey Paths. We’ve also included Hands on Holy Week, a resource to help you build the scenes of Holy Week (similar to a Nativity Scene) and provide a tangible experience. Click here to access all the resources which include videos, daily devotionals, Resurrection Celebration ideas, and so much!

And most assuredly Sunday will come! Easter Sunday we will greet you with a sunrise Facebook Live experience at 6:45am, followed by two more worship celebrations at 9:30am and 11am.
Please know as we continue to live into time of “different” it is only temporary. Your lay leadership and your church staff are continuing to create opportunities to keep us connected, to encourage us to practice our faith, and help keep us focused on how we can see and feel God in our midst. Please share this information with everyone you can think of, help us make sure our family is staying informed, and look out for each other. Know you are being prayed for and that you are loved!
This is your community, United!
