PHIX Helped Provider Make Life-Saving Referral
Spotlight: Centro De Salud Familiar La Fe
"I had a patient who I was wondering what the origin of their low blood pressure was and when I logged into PHIX I saw that they had a mildly elevated white blood cell count and that help me to understand that the patient could have been septic or that the origin of low blood pressure was of infectious origin. Because of PHIX I sent the patient to the hospital and the patient was found to be septic after all. This was a lifesaving referral because of lab values I received through PHIX."

How does PHIX help?
It helps me in particular to do my investigations. These include notifiable conditions mandated by the state of Texas to be reported to the local health department. It allows me to follow symptomology, radiology, lab, and progress reports of the patient. PHIX also allows me to track initial and final diagnosis of patients.

Do you think PHIX is efficient to use?
Yes, it is. The search ability is very user friendly and also the document viewer.

Is there anything that you would like to see PHIX add-on as a feature?
I think consultation notes would be nice, more than progress notes even.

Can you give us an example of how you have used PHIX recently?
I recently used PHIX for a pneumococcal investigation I was conducting. I used it in order to have quick access to medical records in order to obtain logical information that helped my case investigation, as well as another number of disease investigations that I have followed. These investigations are for our local health department and are time sensitive cases that need a quick turnaround.

User Questions
Where are discharge summaries?
Discharge summaries can be found in the "Reports" section of the patient summary. See screenshot below.
My patient was discharged earlier this week from the hospital. Why don't I see their discharge summary yet?
Some data is transmitted to PHIX in real-time (for example, labs). However, PHIX only receives discharge summaries when the physician closes the note and there can be delays in the physician closing notes after the patient is discharged.

Is there any way to get the discharge summaries faster?
While we can't control how fast physicians close their notes, we have heard from our users that they would like as much information as possible on the patient's inpatient stay as soon as possible to facilitate follow-up. Therefore, PHIX is currently working to add more progress and consult notes to help fill these gaps. Stay tuned for updates on these additions!
