A Word from Pastor Diane

I came across something special in my devotional readings yesterday morning, and I wish to share it with you. It comes from Sarah Young’s devotional
Jesus Calling.

I have always been one to worry about what other people think about me. It comes from my upbringing. Does so and so like me? I bet they don’t like me. Did I dress right? Did I say the right thing? How come I can’t think of the right thing to say? Was my sermon/Valley Voice article/email blast okay? The list goes on, and I am sure you can add your own. They are old tapes that play in my head, and even though it doesn’t happen as much as it used to, it is still a battle to tame them.

Sarah Young’s devotional began this way: “Beware of seeing yourself through other people’s eye.”
All right then.
Keeping in mind that her devotional is written as if God is speaking to you, she goes on, “It is much more real to see yourself through My eyes. My gaze upon you is steady and sure, untainted by sin.”

What hit me is the fact that God looks at us with eyes untainted by sin. When people view us with their thoughts and ideas, they are filtered through humanity with all its moods and emotions, and yes, sins.

God’s gaze on us is perfect. “Through My eyes you can see yourself as one who is deeply, eternally loved.”
Can I hear an Amen?!
