WORDS FROM PASTOR CRAIG

THE NON-OFFERING OFFERING

One of the side-effects of COVID19, has been a shift to electronic donations, checks by mail, or placing our offering in the plate before leaving, while the Offertory has become a second anthem. There is great value in a time of reflection, a time to consider our sacrifices and offerings. The act of pledging is like that reflection, outside of worship, where we consider what are my priorities.

Years ago, I knew a woman who meticulously considered her Estate, and how she wanted to recognize and support her church, the Food Pantry, the Ambulance corp., etc. Her actual Will described specific gifts she wanted to make to fifty different organizations. When the time actually came, due to hospital bills and other costs, there was nothing left in her Estate. But regardless of the money, she had made known her concerns and desires.

A Pledge is not a contract you could receive a bill for! Your Pledge informs the Session what the Operating Budget for the next year is going to look like, and allows us to appropriately plan for spending. The Session would have difficulties if we planned to spend a great deal more than what is received. By the same token, if we received a great deal more than what was spent, there is realization we could do a great deal more. Your Pledge speaks to your commitments and support, and empowers our Session in planning.

If you have not yet made a pledge for 2022, please do.
