Ghosts and the Clothes they Wear: Mike Goodlett's Life with Art
In a fourth installment of UnderMain's artist studio visits funded by The Great Meadows Foundation, Keith Banner unfolds the never-ending installation that is the art of Kentucky artist, Michael Goodlett. Together the writing and the artwork in this essay make manifest what Banner sees as one of the truest purposes for art making: "Making art, whoever is making it, weaves the inner-world into the outer-world in a way that allows you to recover and replenish and continue." Enjoy a little recovery time.

ETC.

UnderMain started making studio visits many years ago. Jim Fields, Christine Huskisson and Art Shechet were the first to open a few doors. This year, our interest in bringing you the inside look at Kentucky artists has grown. Now funded by the Great Meadows Foundation, the project allows us to publish the work of these artists and also to realize the talent of many new writers. Our fourth installment of a twelve part series for 2019 welcomes the brilliant work of Keith Banner.

UnderMain is now featured on regular segments of WEKU's Eastern Standard, hosted by our own Tom Martin. Broadcast on Thursdays at 11AM and rebroadcast at 7PM on Thursdays and Sundays at 6PM.

UnderMain is thrilled that Walter Tunis, contributing columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader, is now a contributing writer for UM. We have long admired Walter's writing about music, not just for his depth of music knowledge but also for his fine writing. We are really looking forward to his regular contributions.

With the cutbacks of local news, including arts and culture reporting and coverage throughout the newspaper industry and other news outlets, UnderMain is interested in expanding its reach and coverage of the region's arts and cultural news and events. We would love to hear any ideas that you may have for accomplishing this. Send ideas and suggestions to editorial@under-main.com.

And now more than ever don't forget that UnderMain is a 501(c)(3). You can contribute to our efforts to keep you informed about arts and culture in Lexington and the region. Donation links on every page at under-main.com. It's 2019. Buckle up.
