UnderMain contributing critic, Hunter Kissel, visited the studio of Northern Kentucky's Harry Sanchez, Jr. Kissel. He notes that Sanchez, Jr.'s art underscores competing lived experiences, bringing to the fore the various borders we surround ourselves with that reinforce predetermined ideologies. New UnderMain contributor, Maria Seda-Reeder reviews The Veracity of Images: Judy Pfaff, Isaac Abrams and Kirk Mangus currently on view at Carl Solway Gallery. ETC.

The Kentucky arts community lost two of its most iconic artists over the past few weeks. James Archambeault's photographic images captured the incredible natural beauty of the Kentucky landscape. He died under hospice care in South Carolina. Famed glass artist and Centre College faculty member, Stephen Rolfe Powell, died unexpectedly on March 16th. His work is found in public and private collections.

Critical Mass III at The Carngie in Covington on March 16th, was a great success. Special thanks to Matt Distell at The Carnegie for helping organize, host, and moderate the event. Thanks to the panelists and presenting artists for provocative dialogue and illuminating presentations. And thanks to the good crowd for showing up on a Saturday. Look for CMIV next year at around this time of year.

UnderMain is now featured on regular segments of WEKU's Eastern Standard, hosted by our own Tom Martin. Broadcast on Thursdays at 11AM and rebroadcast at 7PM on Thursdays and Sundays at 6PM.

UnderMain is thrilled to announce that Walter Tunis, contributing columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader, will be a contributing writer for UM. We have long admired Walter's writing about music, not just for his depth of music knowledge but also for his fine writing. We are really looking forward to his regular contributions. Look for upcoming pieces about the Outside The Spotlight jazz series.

With the cutbacks of local news, including arts and culture reporting and coverage throughout the newspaper industry and other news outlets, UnderMain is interested in expanding its reach and coverage of the region's arts and cultural news and events. We would love to hear any ideas that you may have for accomplishing this. Send ideas and suggestions to editorial@under-main.com.

And now more than ever don't forget that UnderMain is a 501(c)(3). You can contribute to our efforts to keep you informed about arts and culture in Lexington and the region. Donation links on every page at under-main.com. It's 2019. Buckle up.
