Hikoi Te Hauora
Recovery Bootcamp
Our first inaugural Hikoi Te Hauora Addiction Recovery Camp was held recently and what a fabulous week it was!

The camp is an Addiction Services initiative to support exercise, self-expression and well being. It was held in the beautiful Blackmount Valley at Te Koawa Turoa O Takitimu.

The group had a fantastic time and enjoyed tons of activities from waka ama to art, games and hiking.

Participants Epi and Dion, who both suffer severe hearing loss, said the camp was “brilliant” and they had enjoyed getting to know each other and being able to relate to others.

“We all felt like a family and part of a team.”

“It was a confidence builder. It was tranquil and spiritual. A 10 out of 10 atmosphere. It helped us to open up more, talk more.”

“We didn’t even have time to think about addictions.”

Maria, another of the camp’s participants, said the relaxing camp had given her more confidence and she had enjoyed being part of a team.

Three camps will be held next year. Those interested in attending can contact Addiction Services Manager Pikihuia Ruffell on (03) 214 5260 or 0800 925 242.
