Lab Renovations

Major renovations are being planned for an upgraded laboratory space in WB319. As illustrated in the new room plans (above) the office space in WB319 will be removed to make room for more bench and desktop space. To accommodate for the loss of office space in room 319, rooms 324 and 325 will be converted into office space.

Room 319 must be vacated by December 15th, 2016 so that construction can begin by the end of the year. The new spaces are expected to be available by April 2018.

Although we are very excited to have the opportunity to revitalize WB319, the loss of WB319 for an extended period of time will cause some disruptions in other areas of BioZone. Members of Professor Mahadevan's group will move, temporarily, to WB403 and other areas of BioZone for lab space. Additionally, Professor Mahadevan's bioreactors and mass spec will move to the basement and his students will find desk space in WB420 and and other areas in BioZone.

News & Events

BioZone Fall Retreat!

The Biozone Fall Trip took place on October 21, 2016 beginning at Mono Cliffs Provincial Park and ending at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery. Prepared to brave the rainy weather, the group went on an incredibly scenic 2 hour hike covering approximately 7km of trails. The main highlight was the viewing platform at the top of the 30m cliffs where the vibrantly coloured forest appeared to be endless. After working up an appetite, the next stop was Spirit Tree Estate Cidery in Caledon where we enjoyed hot cider, freshly baked bread, charcuterie, and good company. The place was beautiful and we highly recommend it as a quaint escape not too far from the city.

Vinthiya's Baby Shower

For those that failed to notice, Vinthiya is having a baby and will shortly be leaving on maternity leave. Our best wishes to Vinthiya and her baby! We look forward to having a baby member in our BioZone family!

Genomics in the Park

Elizabeth Edwards participated in "Genomics in the Park," an event organized by Ontario Genomics to promote the role that synthetic biology can play in advancing research for the wellbeing of Ontarians. The event was held at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and attended by many Members of the Provincial Parliament. The event was accompanied by the release of Ontario Genomic's Think Synthetic Biology Report.
