October news

It has been another busy month here at the Fundraising Regulator as the revised Code of Fundraising Practice came into effect on 1 October alongside a new easier to use and navigate website version. Our Head of Policy Priya Warner writes about how we have brought the code to life in our latest blog.

We have released our 2019/20 Business Plan which sets out our strategic priorities over the next year from 1 September 2019. You can read on our website about the objectives that we aim to deliver.

We’ve also begun preparations for our annual meeting on Monday 18 November, at Central Hall Westminster. The event is an opportunity for us to reflect on the past year and for the sector to share their views on our work. Please see below for more information about how to RSVP. I look forward to meeting you there.

An open invitation to the Fundraising Regulator’s annual meeting

On behalf of Lord Toby Harris, Chair of the Fundraising Regulator, we warmly invite you to the Fundraising Regulator’s annual meeting on Monday 18 November 2019, from 9.30am-12.30pm at Central Hall Westminster, Storey’s Gate, Westminster, SW1H 9NH.

The event will open with speeches from Lord Toby Harris and our CEO, Gerald Oppenheim, who will reflect on the past year and outline our key priorities moving forward. This will be followed by a Q&A where attendees will have the opportunity to ask the Fundraising Regulator questions on our spending and future plans. The second half of the event will explore building trust in fundraising.

Please RSVP to if you would like to attend.

Have you registered for the free Charity Fraud Awareness Hub?

The Fundraising Regulator is pleased to be a part of Charity Fraud Awareness Week which takes place later this month between 21 and 25 October 2019. A key feature of this year’s campaign is a free online awareness hub, in partnership with UK Finance and the Charity Commission.

The hub will launch on Monday 21 October and is a one stop shop for information, guidance and case studies, bringing together charity professionals from across the globe to discuss and share ideas on how to protect the sector – keep an eye out for a webinar from our Head of Policy Priya Warner. To access the hub all you need to do is visit the website and sign up.

Resources from the ICO to prepare for a no-deal Brexit

In last month’s newsletter we featured a blog from Richard Sisson, Senior Policy Officer at the Information Commissioner’s Office, reflecting on data protection essentials for charities, including Brexit advice.

If you have concerns about how the personal data your organisation processes might be affected by Brexit, the Information Commissioner has some guidance to help you prepare on their website.

Fundraising Preference Service update

Members of the public can use the Fundraising Preference Service (FPS) to stop communication from charities they no longer want to hear from. Each month we publish on our website a list of charities that have failed to access and action a FPS request and therefore breached the Code of Fundraising Practice. Download the latest list from our website.
