Thank you for your interest in the Welcome Home Ministry at Heartland. We are so excited to share with you some opportunities in Des Moines to help refugee families.
As needs arise, we will send out an email asking for volunteers. It is one of our highest priorities to respect each family or individual's confidentiality so minimal information will be given in the email. Those interested in helping will need to send me a personal email for more details or instruction.
***The strongest influence you can have in a refugee's life begins with a relationship built on trust. This is so key as you may be their first impression of an American or Christian. Ask the Lord for wisdom as you build friendships with each person.
***The last note we want to clarify is that financial gifts to an individual are highly discouraged. Refugee agencies want to help these families become financially responsible and independent. There may be times we ask for a donation of a certain item (ie. used couch or non perishable foods) but do not give cash to individuals.
