And now...the science bit

Having spent quite some time working at JPW (Jerusalem Print Workshop)
over the decades it sometimes feels to me now that anything below 12oC is winter. So, if that's the case, then here in Scotland we have but two seasons; winter...and July (when it stops snowing and starts raining).
Just kidding.

I really don't mind this wintery weather though, as long as it's out there
and I am in here. Winters can be really quite spectacularly beautiful up here in the NE. I now love them. It does give me yet another reason to shut myself in the studio to work (although that's not the reason I love winters, honest).

However, this prolonged cold dark season has unfortunately been a gift to the dreaded coronavirus. Vaccine news is looking good though. And my new work relates to this among other topics. It's "the science bit" beginning to have an influence on my work again.  Something I've mentioned before.

I am also just trying to get my head around world leaders and societies responses, both the rational and the irrational, to this and other global events. We hear so much about looking to science
to find a way forward.
It might be an idea to listen to it more.

All the new work is on my website

...NEWS NEWS NEWS...

Firstly just to let you know that my website is now more mobile phone friendly. You'll be able to see all new work being launched although the full site
will be accessible on your tablet or PC.

"Still Dreaming of Jerusalem", my audio-visual collaboration with composer Malcolm Lindsay and lens based artist Melanie Sims is now up on the web. Described as "beautifully haunting", it is superbly choreographed and edited by Melanie using stills and moving visuals that I made during my residencies in Jerusalem with specially composed string orchestra music by Malcolm and recorded by the Brno Philharmonic in the Czech Republic.
Listen/watch here.

The International Mezzotint Festival (IMF) ran a short on-line illustrated feature of my work in December. The festival, the only one of its kind solely dedicated to mezzotint is a truly spectacular biennale held in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
See it here (English and Russian).

In January I was invited to present a Zoom talk about my early
Jerusalem Print Workshop residencies and the resulting work from 1996 onwards. It was the first in a new series of on-line lectures for the
Scottish Council of Jewish Communities here in...well, Scotland I guess.
If you'd like, you can see it here.

I'm also chuffed to be included as a mentor for Mezzotint Printmakers International. Of course anyone can ask me anything about all things mezzotint and etching and I'll be only too happy to help where I can.
Just email me.

Til next time, stay safe and stay well
Stuart

p.s. don't forget to have a
look at the new work...it's kinda topical!
