What we are absorbing:

100 Ways to Support—Not Appropriate From—Native People

All episodes of Seeing White via Scene on Radio.

For White people: When we have been taught to see ourselves as white how can we see white supremacy? How can we see the water we’re swimming in? Seeing White, a podcast hosted by John Biewan and Chenjarai Kumenyika, takes you on a journey through history to find out who invented whiteness and race. With candid discussions and interviews with historians, sociologists, and professors, Seeing White gets to the bottom of how the creation of race -- a biologically meaningless construct with very real, violent impacts -- has led to chattel slavery and present-day mass incarceration.

UPDATE: We are still seeking co-founders and ALWAYS looking for submissions for writing and interviews!

What we are thinking about:

How White sage is being over-harvested and White people need to keep their hands off sacred Indigenous plants and rituals…

Alternatives to sage:

  • Rosemary

  • Mugwort

  • Cedar

  • Thyme

  • Basil

  • Lavender

  • Garden Sage (salvia officinalis)

Jolie Varela, founder of Indigenous Women Hike, worked to create this image that gets to the truth of what John Muir was all about. John Muir espoused racist ideologies, which contributed to the forced removal of Indigenous peoples from their homelands. The National Park Service has a bloody history and John Muir played a major role. Too often he is lauded as the "patron saint of the wilderness," but Indigenous Women Hike is asking us to "re-think the wild." With their new fundraiser, you can get this image on a shirt or tank top and simultaneously support Indigenous-led resistance! Click here to buy your shirt now!
