Presidential Address

The last few months have been busy months for the WSRT. The conference is shaping up nicely with a variety of speakers confirmed already. The conference this year will be in the ANB leadership room in the Clay-Pathfinder building at LCCC in Cheyenne, WY. There is a block of rooms reserved at the Hilton for attendees. Reservations must be made by mid-August to be eligible for a discounted conference rate. The Conference will be September 14-15th, 2018.

Our Education Committee has been working nonstop to complete the student bowl revamp for next year’s conference. This revamp includes new, revised questions, new format, and a new timing system. It is going to be exciting!! Our Bylaws Committee has been diligently reviewing the finance policy and is almost finished with that. Kudos to them for all their hard work with that!

Thanks to our Finance Committee, we have successfully consolidated to just one bank. We are now in the process of selecting a regional/easily accessible bank to members all over the state, not just in Cheyenne. When the accounts were originally set up, board members selected the banks based on their interest rates, which is how we ended up at two different banks for our different account types. Each bank had the lowest rate for that type of account, however; those banks are only found in Cheyenne. This makes it difficult to conduct business when Board Members are located throughout the state. Right now, we are in the process of reviewing interest rates to see which regional bank would best benefit our society.

As a reminder to the upcoming Graduates—please do not forget about our awesome Graduate Membership. This Graduate Membership is a gift from the WSRT to congratulate you on your accomplishments. It is a one-year membership provided to new grads for free! You can apply online via www.wsrt.org/membership-application/.

With the conference quickly approaching, we are open to anyone looking to serve on a committee or help out with the conference. If you want to help but don’t want to serve on a committee, we are looking for donations for our Annual Conference in September. These include door prizes, raffle prize items, or monetary donations. Monetary donations can be a general donation or directed specifically towards a snack break, speaker fund, etc. If you would like information or would like to help serve, please contact Laurel Zeiler at lzeiler133@gmail.com.

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve as your president! Happy Spring!

Education for Students

The committee has been working hard updating the Student Bowl rules for this year's conference. If anyone wants to help with questions or see what we've come up with, please send me an email!

The other big item was revamping the rules for the Bruce E. Johnson Memorial Grant and Mickey Patch Scholarship. We did three big things: set a clear window/deadline for applying, set the application to online only, and removed the financial component from the application.

Having the application online-only will reduce the changes of required items getting lost in the mail or not making it in time. We chose to remove the financial questions from the application after discussing the purpose and meaning behind them. There are many scholarships/grants that are financially based, but we want these to focus on the profession and organization rather than financial need. The new rules and applications are up on the website, go check it out!
