Upstate Republican Women Attend the RNC Convention

Three of our URW ladies had the privilege of attending the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio last month.  Our current president Donna Gottschall, past president Suzette Jordan and past vice president Linda Garner made the 600-plus mile trip to Cleveland and brought home incredible memories that will last a lifetime.  Donna says their days were long and their nights were short, but "we could sleep when we got home to Greenville - the experience was not to be missed!"

Donna, Suzette and Linda look forward to sharing some of their RNC experiences at our upcoming URW luncheon at the Poinsett Club on August 15 at noon.

    The URW President's Letter

When I stepped into the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, at 11:17 a.m. on Monday, July 18, I knew I was living a moment that would be etched in my memory forever. In a short time, the massive convention hall I was standing in would welcome its 50,000 guests whose primary purpose was to nominate the next Republican candidate for President of the United States of America. What a monumental task lay before us—a task that I felt a great privilege to experience.
I and the other ladies from our URW club had traveled over 600 miles and 15 hours to arrive in Cleveland for the 2016 Republican National Convention. Other guests and delegates surely traveled farther and longer than we. Reporters and protestors had also converged on this city. But all of us—Republican or not—knew that we were about to experience something special…a moment in history that was ours alone. For the next five days the city of Cleveland was alive with anticipation, excitement and political passion.
As I walked through the huge crowd of RNC guests on the streets of Cleveland that first night, I was struck with the realization that tens of thousands of grassroots supporters had given their time and passion to be part of the political process of nominating a Republican candidate for President.
Even more impressive to me was that our party initially had 17 qualified candidates running for the office of President. Fifteen men and one woman willingly put their lives on hold and allowed their reputations and families to be mercilessly scrutinized for many months so they could serve in our country’s highest office.  Their sacrifice of time, money, and both mental and physical energy was more than most of us could ever imagine, let alone endure.  And now, here we were in Cleveland to choose our single nominee for President and to bring unity to our Grand Old Party.
Now, it’s time to rally behind our Republican nominee, Donald Trump. Our fight for the White House has really just begun.  Let’s stand together and make America safe again, make America work again, make American first again and make American one again.

Desert Shield and Desert Storm Honor Ceremonies

The men and women who have served in our armed forces deserve to be recognized for their willingness to defend our country against those who would harm us. On August 27th, I will host Desert Shield and Desert Storm Honor Ceremonies in Greenville and Charleston. Since being elected to federal office, I have hosted several honor ceremonies for South Carolina’s veterans in an effort to show appreciation for all that they and their families have sacrificed. In 2012, World War II Veterans were honored; in 2013, I held two ceremonies celebrating our Korean War era veterans;  and in 2014, our Vietnam Veterans were honored.

Each veteran will receive a special Senatorial Certificate of Appreciation, as well as a pin. All interested veterans should register with my office by visiting

Just a reminder to you and all your clubs' members, but especially to you as leaders, that disparaging remarks or publications involving Republican candidates for office is not only prohibited in the SCFRW by-laws, but also the NFRW by-laws, and I'm betting in your clubs' by-laws as well. We will need ALL the Republican votes we can get in November, and the time is now to wear a positive attitude and show the opposition that we will not be defeated this election cycle!

As leaders of the Republican party, you need to hold yourselves to a higher standard than your membership.  Remember, you are the role model and example in a very contested nominee selection process.
Thank you for always being an upstanding "Republican back-bone."
