URW President's Letter

A few weeks ago, Mary Vause, Cheryl Cuthrell and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the National Federation of Republican Women's Spring Board meeting in Memphis, Tennessee. Spending a weekend with other like-minded Republican ladies from all over the United States was not only inspiring and encouraging, but a great learning opportunity as well: we shared fundraising and membership ideas and received first-hand instruction on the National Federation's new database. After meeting with ladies from our district, we were reminded how fortunate we are not to have active protests at our candidates’ reelection meetings – or even at our club meetings.

As members of Upstate Republican Women, you are also members of the South Carolina and National Federation of Republican Women. The meetings in Columbia for the South Carolina Federation, the convention in Myrtle Beach, and the National Federation convention in Philadelphia September 13-16 are all available to you. I encourage you to get involved and enjoy the privileges of both organizations.

As you can tell from the pictures with our State President Bev Brady, First Vice President Beverly Owensby, and our National President, Carrie Almond, we took time out for a little Elvis performance at the Regent's Dinner. It was a great time of learning and fellowship for all.
Your URW President,
Donna Gottschall

WASHINGTON, April 7 - "Today we witnessed the American system of government once again working for the American people as the United States Senate confirmed President Donald Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the highest court in the land," stated Carrie Almond, president of the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW).
The Senate confirmed the nomination of Justice Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court today by a vote of 54-45.
"After more than a year of speculation we are gratified to know that an individual of Justice Gorsuch's character, calibre and experience will fill this seat on the bench," Almond added. "We also are pleased to see an end to opposition threats and partisan bickering on this issue as President Trump's first nominee to the Supreme Court has now been approved."
The NFRW understands the importance of a strong conservative filling this vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February 2016, and has supported the Senate confirmation of Gorsuch since his nomination on Jan. 31.
"At our spring board meeting in March, the NFRW unanimously adopted a resolution calling on the Senate to confirm Justice Gorsuch immediately," Almond continued. "Throughout the confirmation process we have called upon our members to contact their senators to make their support known."
