Come hear our March luncheon speaker

The Honorable Lt. Governor Kevin Bryant

Join us at our next URW luncheon as we welcome South Carolina's new lieutenant governor, The Honorable Kevin Bryant. Bryant previously served as a S.C. senator from District 3 and is one of the most conservative voices in Columbia. He and his wife, Ann have three children. Bryant earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia.  He is the president of Bryant Pharmacy and Supply in Anderson.

Bryant was elected to the South Carolina Senate in 2004 to represent Anderson County's 3rd District. He was re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016. In January 2017, Bryant was elected President Pro Tempore of the Senate. When The Honorable Governor Nikki Haley was chosen to be the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations elevating The Honorable Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster to Governor, Bryant was chosen to replace McMaster as lieutenant governor.

Bryant made national news when he introduced legislation to extend the death penalty to child rapists. The legislation was signed into law by then Gov. Mark Sanford in 2006.

He has been an outspoken critic of government spending. In 2012, after Governor Nikki Haley vetoed funding for a rape crisis center, Bryant was one of only two senators who voted to sustain the veto.

Bryant supports a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

Bryant proposed a bill that would create a state registry for refugees. If passed, it would have held refugee sponsors liable for crimes committed by refugees. The bill died in committee.

Bryant has pre-filed a bill that would allow school teachers to be armed. He has named it after Jacob Hall, a child who was killed in a school shooting in Bryant's district of Townville, South Carolina.
