Garage sale a great success

An amazing effort by our team of dedicated volunteers resulted in over $5,000 being raised at the Muddy Puddles Garage Sale in late September. This was the first time the annual Garage Sale was held at Muddy Puddles and it provided a great opportunity to showcase our wonderful Therapy Centre on a brilliant Spring day.
In the lead up to the Garage Sale, the Muddy Puddles Gourmet therapy group baked a selection of treats for sale on the day. We also received a large range of baked goods and fresh produce generously donated to us. Our Sausage Sizzle again boasted the best sausages in town which were cooked on our newly acquired BBQ (a generous donation from Bunnings, Batemans Bay) and the Coffee Van had a steady stream of appreciative customers. The range of donated items included clothing, books, DVDs and toys, kitchen items, knick knacks, tools and furniture. There was something for everyone to browse through and resulted in many satisfied bargain hunters.
A very BIG THANK YOU to the large number of children, clients, staff, volunteers and their partners who pulled off yet another highly successful fundraising event for Muddy Puddles. Well done Team!

Tina Philip OAM

Tina is usually the one who is writing these Volunteer profiles but this time she is the subject, and that is a little nerve-racking! She has been a major driving force behind Muddy Puddles and especially the Fundraising Committee since she was appointed to the board in February 2016.

After retiring from her very successful career as a psychiatric nurse, Tina was looking for a cause to commit to that would allow her to give back to the community. It was perfect timing in the early stages of the development of Muddy Puddles that she was introduced to the organisation through friends and was finally convinced to join the Board. Tina has always loved being around children and is passionate about helping people. Her initial commitment was for 12 months. Luckily, she found value and satisfaction in the role and her stint will be coming up to 4 years in February.

The fundraising committee began as a small group of friends who organized a number of different events and activities, often in their own homes. It has now become a sub-committee of the Board and has been responsible for raising over $80,000 that goes directly to helping children and young people who don’t have funding. Tina said she still really enjoys working with the committee who are committed and passionate about the Muddy Puddles cause and finds great satisfaction in the events and results.

Tina has also been involved in the recruitment of many volunteers over the years, often through her own enthusiasm and commitment. There are now over 48 volunteers who work in a variety of roles in the organisation.

Tina acknowledges the positive culture of Muddy Puddles, and is “proud to be part of an organisation so passionate and committed to assisting families in need”, and even “enjoys bantering with the Chair”

Muddy Puddles is very fortunate that Tina’s retirement came about at a time when we were needing an enthusiastic and engaging person to join the organisation.

Computer access for clients

Thanks to Linda Gorman, our amazing volunteer and Caring for Carers group facilitator, we have received additional funding from MyTime to purchase a laptop for the use of clients and their parents or carers.
The laptop is available for use in a variety of ways, including:
  • Accessing resources and information of value to you and your child
  • Accessing the myGov portal to make claims, check the plan balance and pay invoices
  • Receive training from a Muddy Puddles team member on plan management if required (this service would be billable)
The laptop has internet access as well as virus and parental controls. If you are interested in using the laptop  please contact reception to book a time. Please note that it is only available for use within the centre.
