A great result from our NDIS Audit

The team at Muddy Puddles is committed to providing a high-quality and safe service to our clients, their families and support networks. Our organisation recently went through the NDIS Certification process with a team of external auditors and the result was excellent.
It was reassuring to know that our hard work and dedication to high standards has paid off as the auditors gave their very positive closing briefing.

We have worked hard over several years to build a team of local, suitably qualified professionals who understand the importance of evidence-based practice and person-centred service provision. We are coming up to five years since the organisation was founded by a group of local people with a passion to make a difference for children and young people with a disability. During this time, we have come so far with tremendous community support and are proud to offer a suite of therapy services including occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, psychology and behaviour support, art as therapy, music therapy, and dramatherapy.

Our early childhood intervention team includes experienced educators who work alongside therapists to provide a Key Worker model of service which is considered best-practice in therapeutic intervention for ages 0 – 6 years. In addition to individual therapy, we offer complementary services to build the capacity of children and young people up to the age of 24 years through individually tailored support and group programs.

Muddy Puddles made the decision to be a Registered NDIS Provider when the scheme first commenced. The families of the Eurobodalla deserve a trusted and safe service that is measured against a defined set of standards. Muddy Puddles complies with the NDIS Practice Standards which are governed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. These standards are an important benchmark for providers to assess their performance and demonstrate how they provide high quality and safe supports and services to NDIS participants.

The external audit is a thorough (and costly) process where a team of independent auditors review our policies, processes and practices against the NDIS Practice Standards which consist of a core module and supplementary modules according to the types of services an organisation offers. The core module covers:
  • rights and responsibility for participants
  • governance and operational management
  • provision of supports, and
  • the support provision environment.
Muddy Puddles was also evaluated against three supplementary modules, being:
  • specialist behaviour support
  • implementing behaviour support plans, and
  • early childhood supports.
In addition to reviewing our systems and processes, the auditors interviewed our team and clients to determine if we are supporting our clients to progress towards their identified goals and recognising their legal and human rights. We are pleased to report that families feel that they are listened to and involved in decision making, have access to the information they require and believe we respond flexibly to their needs.

We take our responsibilities as a Registered NDIS Provider seriously and we actively foster a culture of continuous improvement. Thank you to our clients who recognise that choosing Muddy Puddles means choosing a trusted service provider who is measured against the highest standards. We will continue to encourage feedback and input from our clients and the community to ensure we deliver a high-quality and responsive service.

First year in our building

We have now been operating from our new building for one year – and it has flown.  Since we moved in, we’ve provided countless guided tours and hundreds of clients and community members have enjoyed visiting our beautiful therapy centre. It still has that new building feel though we have well and truly settled in.

Every day our clients and team members enjoy the art on the walls, provided by Creative Arts Batemans Bay (CABBI). Every three months or so the CABBI artists come along and hang new works of art to brighten our space. Some members have donated their works and other pieces of art are for sale, so please take the time to have a look next time you’re in the centre.

Our garden has matured and is looking fabulous thanks to the regular watering, planting and maintenance by our Volunteers Barb and Steve Cressey, Mary Clark, Nara Melas and Marg De Smet (and partner).  Bernie Basevi has continued to give his time generously to address the building maintenance issues that pop up. Special mention must also go to Volunteers Cherie Hall and Carol Proctor who clean, tidy and organise our centre each week. Their support keeps the centre in good condition in between our weekly professional cleans and gives the Service Provision team more time to spend supporting clients.

Muddy Puddles is very privileged and appreciative of the amazing support received from our community.

This support comes in many ways including the donation of goods for raffles and offering goods and services at a reduced cost or pro bono. A great  example of this support is Mark Hood from Batemans Bay Finer Foods. Mark has very generously supported Muddy Puddles at our regular Bunnings Sausage Sizzles and is pictured below with Muddy Puddles volunteer Sue Rowland.

Along with our team of volunteers, there are many local business, groups, community organisations, families and individuals who give their time to support Muddy Puddles at our fundraising events by helping out in any way they can.

We would like to thank the local businesses who support Muddy Puddles by having one of our donation boxes in their store or place of business. Pictured below are some of the team at Michel's Patisserie in Batemans Bay.

On behalf of the Muddy Puddles team and families, we offer our thanks!
