December 2016

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...

In the final newsletter for 2016 I would like to thank everyone for their continued support for all our special brands and for using our service and parts facilities. It has not been an easy year for any of us but we have done our best to keep our spare parts and vehicles coming in from our overseas suppliers. We hope to be able to continue with this policy during 2017.

2016 has seen some exciting new models being introduced from our suppliers whether it be Mercedes-Benz, Jeep, Fiat or Mitsubishi. All have been very proactive in delivering new and face lift models. We hope to have most of these new models featuring on our Zimbabwe roads during 2017.

ZIMOCO will be officially closing its workshops on the 9th December to allow for stock-take and staff to catch up on leave. However, we will have staff on site to cater for emergencies and breakdowns. We will be opening again on January 3rd 2017 with full workshop and parts support. At this stage I would like to wish all our customers a very happy holiday and to thank you all for your support during 2016. Let us all look forward to a happy and prosperous new year in 2017.

Travel safely over the holiday.

Best Regards,

Zimoco Thanks

Mercedes-Benz recently revealed the Mercedes-Benz Concept X-Class in Stockholm which gives a concrete outlook on its new pickup. The first premium pickup will combine the best of two worlds with two design variants of the concept car. The Concept X-Class "Powerful Adventurer" will possess all the strengths of a classic pickup - tough, functional and strong combined with amazing off-road capability while the Concept X-Class “Stylish Explorer" goes a step further and shows what will distinguish the pickup bearing the Mercedes star. The X-Class will be a true Mercedes from the hallmark brand design and comfort to the driving dynamics and safety.

The specially constructed suspension with wide axles, a five-link rear axle with coil springs, and a precisely calibrated spring/damper set-up will ensure a high ride comfort on-road and off-road. The X-Class will also impress with precise steering, a comfortable ride, agile cornering and, as is the norm for Mercedes-Benz, customers will be able to choose from different equipment to customise the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

The top-of-the-line model will be powered by a V6 diesel engine with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive which will provide high driving dynamics both on-road and off-road. The all-wheel-drive system will combine an electronic action system, a transfer case with reduction gear and two differential locks. Under extreme off-road conditions, the rear differential and the inter-axle differential can be locked to safely master difficult obstacles and inclines. The powerful drive system and the tough ladder-type frame will make a payload of more than 1.1 tonnes and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.

A host of interior components that customers know and appreciate from the C-Class and V-Class will be found in the X-Class with perfectly finished high-quality materials, the infotainment system and the ergonomic seating comfort. As a result, the pickup will offer the ‘welcome home’ feeling typical of the brand, and define a new levell of comfort and value appeal in the segment of mid-size pickups.

Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said, “With the Mercedes-Benz pickup, we will close one of the last gaps in our portfolio. Our target: we want to offer customers vehicles matching their specific needs. The X-Class will set new standards in a growing segment.” It will be launched in late 2017 under the name Mercedes-Benz X-Class. ZIMOCO will keep you updated with any further information regarding the launch in this space!
