Unofficial service can be dangerous...

Welcome to the fourth edition of the ZIMOCO monthly newsletter and I hope you are all enjoying being kept up to speed on new products and services from ZIMOCO and our manufacturers. In this edition, I would like to emphasise the importance of regular service by ZIMOCO, as the only authorised distributors, and their official agents. ZIMOCO only has one official agent in Zimbabwe, that being Tristar Motors in Bulawayo. All the other Mercedes-Benz and Jeep service agents you see around town are not appointed by ZIMOCO or their manufacturers and can cause major problems to your precious car if you take it to one of these non-official garages.

To reflect for a moment on what I mean by ‘problems’, these can be wrong diagnosis, wasting time and money repairing the wrong fault, not being able to ‘plug’ the car into genuine equipment that talks to Germany or the USA, not having manufacturer’s warranty on genuine parts, and of course, poor workmanship on your car. All this leads to frustration, high cost of repair, lower re-sale value on your vehicle and a bad feeling about your experience. This is not what we strive for at ZIMOCO.

Rudi Botha, our General Service Manager, will reflect on this subject more in this issue. Rudi has a wealth of experience in the automotive world and we are lucky to have him heading up our well trained and experienced after-sales team. Please call Rudi if you need help or guidance. The Mercedes SUV Launch

Earlier this month, ZIMOCO launched the Mercedes-Benz SUV Range at Victoria 22 Restaurant in Harare. This saw the unveiling of some exciting new 4x4 luxury SUV Mercedes-Benz models. Under the vehicle naming scheme maintained by Mercedes-Benz, SUV’s now use the base name ‘GL', followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy. The 'G' is for Gelandewagen (German for off-road vehicle) and alludes the long-running G-Wagon. This is then linked with the letter ‘L’ and followed with the letter associated to the sedan model.

The smallest of the SUV range which was revealed on the night was the Mercedes-Benz GLC 250 4MATIC. A compact luxury SUV that replaces the former Mercedes-Benz GLK Class and is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class. This was followed by the reveal of the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 d 4MATIC (formerly known as the ML) and the GLE 350 d Coupe which are the SUV equivalents to the E Class. Finally, the star of the show and the “S-Class of SUV’s” was unveiled - the all new Mercedes-Benz GLS. ZIMOCO After-Sales

The importance of maintaining your vehicle in the best condition cannot be over emphasised. Long term, it will save you money and increase the lifespan of your prized possession.

ZIMOCO is the only official distributor and our official agents, Tristar Motors, are our only authorised dealer which means that we have direct access to Daimler AG through our Star Diagnostic equipment and we receive regular monthly updates on the latest developments. Furthermore, our technicians are regularly trained by German technical staff and we use only genuine parts in your vehicles. All this is supported by a warranty program that carries enormous value to you as a customer and provides a level of comfort during the period of the warranty and beyond. Through this diagnostic equipment and should the situation demand it, we are able to link up directly with technicians in Germany and in some cases, they are able to control the repair directly from Germany.

Going into the holiday period, this may well be an opportune time to give some thought to perhaps having your vehicle serviced, or repairing something that may not be particularly urgent at the moment, but may well become problematic if left unattended. Our advice to all our customers is not to leave this to the last minute, but rather book your vehicle in for a comprehensive check-over to give you that peace of mind. Take a moment to have your windscreen wipers, tyres, brakes, lights and air-conditioning units checked by using the workshop facilities that we have available to you.

We would like to remind our valued customers that the ZIMOCO workshops will be closed from Monday 19th December 2016 and will re-open again on Tuesday 3rd January 2017. Fleetboard

Fleetboard® is a Daimler telematics system that gives you the ability to monitor every aspect of your fleet’s performance with standard features that include performance analysis, service with telematics, trip record and mapping. It is a telematics system like no other where savings equals dollars in your pocket and more uptime for your vehicle.

Imagine a day when you can manage your driver training from behind your desk, analyse brake wear and calculate optimum route performance. With driver performance being the single largest contributor to fuel consumption. In short, the Fleetboard® system helps fleets manage their drivers more effectively by measuring and reporting key data. If you can’t measure it, how can you manage it?
