Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers. Charles William Eliot
A Note from the Library Director
Dear Friends,
Whether March comes in like a lion or not, the library has what it takes to get you through this fickle month, when you don't know if it will be sunny or sleeting! Please enjoy all the programs available to you at the library this month, including Monday Movie Matinees for adults, a Dungeons & Dragons event for teens, a DIY spa lab for tweens, Toys' Day Out for school-age kiddos, and so much more!
You might notice some nice updates to the library collection, too. Our adult DVD section is now organized by genre, making it easier for you to find a good TV series, comedy, drama, and so on. Our Early Reader collection is now organized by reading level, making it easier for emerging readers to find books that are "just right" for them.
Hope to see you soon at the library!

Yours in Reading,
Betsy Bleck, Library Director

The Oconomowoc Public Library has been transforming our community for 125 years! 2018 will be a year of celebration and pride as we reflect on how the library and community have transformed together.  Stay up-to-date with our year-long celebration at
Did You Know?
Our Filmless Film Club helped us kick off our 125th anniversary year with their “125 Books Dominos” video. Each month a new video will debut on our website and Facebook page.

The club is looking for 125 people to help with their next promotional video for the library’s 125th anniversary! All ages are welcome, even encouraged!
Filming will take place the evening of Friday, March 23 and morning of Saturday, March 24, 2018. Time commitment is minimal - just say “Hello” and represent your love for the library! Please call Caitlin at (262) 569-2193 ex. 210 or email her at if you would like to participate.
News You Can Use
It is so much fun to watch children learn how to read! Werreceived so much feedback from parents, caregivers, and educators about the need for a leveled order in our early readers, so we went and did it! When you look up early readers in our catalog, you will now see a color designation after the call number. That color leads you to a corresponding area in our early readers, where the books have a colored sticker on their spine, and are organized alphabetically by author or series name.

There are five levels:
Beginning Readers (Green) Intermediate Readers (Orange) Independent Readers (Yellow) First Chapter Books
First books little ones start to read by relying on sight words and sounding words out phonetically
Start to introduce verb tenses and grammar; sentences become a bit more complex
Much more dialogue, story line, and conflict; vocabulary is richer; words up to three or four syllables
Introduce short chapters, complex concepts and diverse vocabulary. For those starting to read without much adult help. Short, illustration-filled chapter books for kids to read alone

If your early reader still wants to check out books that are either above or below their level, please permit them to do so! Readers who enjoy their time with a book have a better chance of remaining readers throughout their life. Our levels are guidelines to help ease your reader’s path, not strict rules. As always, please feel free to ask library staff for assistance. If you have further questions about the collection and levels, please email Caitlin at Happy reading!
Enjoy stories, songs, and a puppet show! FREE! No registration required!
Everyone is welcome to join the fun!
