The best way to avoid the cold weather is to stay in and read!
A Note from the Library Director
Happy New Year! We at the library are looking forward to bringing you a special year of fun, because the library is turning 125 years old in 2018! From special displays to parade floats to commemorative t-shirts, there will be plenty of fun to be had at the library this year. Did you know that the Oconomowoc Public Library is one of the oldest libraries in Wisconsin? We started as a private association in 1870, and became a public library in 1893. Many readers might remember the library's former location at 212 N. Lake Road (now the parking lot adjacent to Veterans Memorial Park). The library was located there from 1900 to 1987. At that location, the library building contained a museum and an apartment! But some things never change: The griffins that guard the library's entrance today also guarded the old location beginning in 1968. The history of the griffins is a whole other story -- one you can read at the library's website, -- it's a doozy!

Anyway, all of us at the library wish you and yours a very happy new year, and we hope to see you soon at the library!

Quasquicentennial Corner
What is a quasquicentennial
you ask?

A quasquicentennial is a 125th anniversary and the library is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year!

We are kicking off our anniversary year with commemorative t-shirts. We will start taking
t-shirt orders in late January.

Custom bookmarks and buttons designed by our patrons to celebrate our 125th anniversary and will be available soon.
The Oconomowoc Public Library has been transforming our community for 125 years! 2018 will be a year of celebration and pride as we reflect on how the library and community have transformed together.

The library is all about stories and we would love for you to share yours!
Submit your photos and memories to help us build a memory book for the library’s 125th anniversary in 2018.
Please share your stories and photos online at
The library has six study rooms available for public use.  The rooms were recently updated and have been well received by users! Each room contains an adjustable-height table, two chairs, and a white board. Study rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.
Did You Know?
8,467 Oconomowoc residents have library cards and make up more than 50% of the library’s 16,514 total cardholders! Over the past year, the number of city resident cardholders has increased 8%. That’s awesome! We’d love to see even more people sign-up in 2018! Please help us spread the word.
Enjoy stories, songs, and a puppet show! FREE! No registration required!
Everyone is welcome to join the fun!
