Burundi News Update
By BFI Executive Director, Julie Marner
Dear Donor Family,
I would like to inform you of some recent news from Burundi. The National Security Council (CNS) of the Burundi government suspended foreign NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) beginning on October 1st for a period of three months. The CNS stated the suspension will allow the institutions in charge of them to verify their activities.
Burundi Friends International is a U.S. based non-profit organization assisting established and recognized NGO’s by the government of Burundi. BFI’s operations are not impacted by the recent suspension and our service to Burundians continues today, just like it has all year and since 2007.
BFI unites and educates youth, women and men leading to economic empowerment, building self-sustaining communities in Burundi, East Africa. Our commitment to offer missing opportunities in Burundi remains strong. While we remain vigilant about all activities in Burundi and stay in close communication with our In-Country Team, we also stay committed to offering you, our donors, transparent information. We hold dearly your support and belief in BFI’s mission and daily efforts.
If you have questions or concerns related to any part of this recent development in Burundi, or otherwise, please email me at Julie.M@bufri.org or leave a message on BFI’s phone service. I will return the call as soon as possible. BFI’s phone number is (619) 800-2340.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
