The Partnership for Southern Equity is proud to accept you into the 2021 class of the Just Energy Academy (JEA) Leadership Development Program. From February through August 2021, you and your fellow participants will embark upon a leadership development journey focused on developing community leaders’ understanding of racial equity, energy equity and environmental justice.

The goal of JEA is to educate and engage the next generation of equity leaders who are ready and willing to continue the work towards energy equity. What’s required of you? Just that you be present, have an open mind ready for learning and an open heart for collaboration.

In order to confirm your acceptance, you need fill out the JEA Acceptance Form. Please submit this form no later than 12 noon on Monday, December 21st, 2020. 

JEA is a seven-month commitment; one Saturday per month “in-class” time plus your community project. It is expected that you will commit to fully taking advantage of the opportunity that has been entrusted to you and that you will be accountable to your peers for your participation. If your situation has changed, and you foresee conflicts with more than one session, please let us know as soon as possible.

A schedule overview is as follows (dates finalized; topics tentative):

• February 20 (Atlanta) - Welcome Breakfast, Academy Overview

• March 13 (Atlanta) - Leadership for Racial Equity

• April 10 (Savannah) - Environmental & Climate Justice

• May 15 (Atlanta) - Energy and Health Equity

• June 12 (Atlanta) -100% Clean Energy Cities and Energy Policy 101

• July 10 (Fort Valley) - Organizing for Opportunity: Advocacy & Community Organizing

• August 14 (Atlanta) - Community Project Presentations and Graduation

The final location and delivery for the first training in Atlanta is still being finalized. You will receive this information no later than Monday, February 10. In general, each Saturday will begin at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast and continue through 4:00 p.m. (including lunch).

COVID-19 Disclosure: Due to the rapidly changing Coronavirus pandemic, we have not finalized whether the course will be in-person or virtual. We will send out a survey to you and all participants to help make that decision during the first week of January 2021.
