UPDATE — June 21, 2021

Last night, the Partnership for Southern Equity was proud to play a small role in the Atlanta United game as the players wore a new kit on the field. This kit, meant to express hope for unity and anti-racism, is called the “Unity Kit.”

Beyond the Unity Kit being a powerful visual and public symbol of Atlanta United's commitment to equity, proceeds from Unity Kit merchandise will go towards organizations working to advance equity.

PSE was deeply honored to be showcased during the game as one of just five organizations chosen to receive an inaugural $30,000 donation during the Unity Kit launch celebration. Thank you to America Family Insurance for sponsoring this generous gift.

It is an honor to be lifted up in this way and to have the opportunity to stand in unity with some of Atlanta’s finest athletes, leaders, and organizations, sharing the commitment to advance equity and celebrating the path forward.

Thank you, Equity Sustainers

This week, we are focusing our gratitude on those individuals who have committed financial support to our work — our Equity Sustainers.

Although PSE was honored to receive nearly $3.5 million in funding from organizations last year, it is the monthly pledges we receive from individual givers like you that enable us to work most responsively within our communities.

Are you ready to deepen your commitment to advancing racial equity in the American South?

Join our Equity Sustainers today and consider making a monthly donation — even $10 a month can make a powerful impact.

“Freedom to me means everybody having what they need, education of our children, healthcare for every person who needs it, and being able to dialogue and learn from somebody from another race and not living in this climate of hate and resentment that we're living in now. That's what freedom means to me.”
— Opal Lee, "Grandmother of Juneteenth"

“If you know whence you came, there is really no limit to where you can go.If you know whence you came, there is really no limit to where you can go.”
— James Baldwin

"Sometimes we have to do the work even though we don't yet see a glimmer on the horizon that it's actually going to be possible."
— Angela Davis

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
— James Baldwin

As we celebrate Juneteenth becoming our newest federal holiday on June 19 and Pride Month, let the words of our elders encourage everyone who is committed to racial equity to stay engaged, learn deeply, and support the organizations and leaders who are doing this work.
Onward towards equity,

Nathaniel Q. Smith, Jr.

Congratulations to Just Energy Director Chandra Farley and the Just Energy Team!
The Just Opportunity issue area would like to thank all of our partners and friends for an overwhelming response for Just Capital, a special initiative of the Rockefeller Foundation's Opportunity Collective. Approximately 25 Black and Latinx entrepreneurs from across metropolitan Atlanta were selected for the initial cohort, which is designed to address access to capital for diverse founders. Stay tuned for more stories from this exciting venture!
The Just Health issue area and the Healthcare Georgia Foundation are proud to present the Health Equity Assessment Guide, the fruit of a multi-year effort to educate and strengthen Georgia’s rural communities in health equity; an often misunderstood or underestimated element that can heal and strengthen traditionally marginalized populations and provide an opportunity for growth and sustainability.
Check out the Health Equity Assessment Guide!
Thanks to the more than 20 corporations and 80 attendees who joined us for for "Racial Equity: The New Bottom Line", the public launch of the Just Business Roundtable, a platform for businesses to learn and hold an honest dialogue about systemic racism in the corporate sector; examine and improve upon their internal policies and practices that affect racial economic disparities; and help shape public policies toward a race-conscious, equitable approach to growing metropolitan Atlanta’s economy.
We envision an equitable economy that allows Black and historically disinvested communities of color to contribute and thrive in metropolitan Atlanta.
Support a more equitable future today!
