To our equity ecosystem,

The fight for justice for George Floyd during the Chauvin trial has had us all riveted hoping for justice. It's been difficult to be captured by this event while working to advance racial equity. Burning the candle at both ends is difficult for anyone. But now the verdict is in, Chauvin is guilty, and justice feels a little closer.

I wanted to reach out to encourage you all to practice self-care, which is very important in our line of work. Please take the time to reflect and heal because we need every one of you in this fight. I'm sure the process of realizing this verdict during a pandemic while waiting for justice for Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, and others has been difficult. I know it's been for me. Although we have a long way to go, I am thankful for the wins against structural racism when they come. That gives me hope for this work that it must and will continue. As fellow champions for racial equity, I hope you feel the same way.

I appreciate every one of you for your sacrifice to create a society where all people matter, especially Black and Brown folk. Your commitment will make sure that we will realize the Beloved Community someday.

Take care and if you need anything, please let me know.

Onward towards equity,

Nathaniel Q. Smith, Jr.
Founder and Chief Equity Officer

"We, as a people, need to stand united because, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” [With the passage of the new voting law], it’s not just Black and Brown communities, seniors, and working folks who [have lost], we [have] all [lost]."
