Cardinal George Pell, a 'larger than life' churchman, dies at 81

The former Vatican treasurer and archbishop of Sydney and of Melbourne, died of cardiac arrest Jan. 10 after a hip replacement surgery in Rome. He famously spent more than 400 days in jail on historical sex abuse charges that were later overturned in 2020.
