Lazarus Makes a Big Impact in Gudipadu

Gudipadu, a village in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, faces a situation not unfamiliar to societies everywhere: a shortage of employment.

As there are many thousands of people packed into the region surrounding Gudipadu, work is difficult to find.  When you need to support your family, sticking around this area is often not an option. Though employment is easier to find in the big city of Hyderabad, the extensive distance and expensive bus fares make it difficult for parents who are looking to take care of their children.

Many of the village children have been left in the care of their elderly friends and relatives.  This means that in a typical situation, good education would be out of the question.  However, Gudipadu's local Covenant Child Development Center (“CCDC”) is active and well, and it is run by a dedicated pastor named Lazarus.

Lazarus is a transplant to Gudipadu himself, having moved to the village one year ago to manage the local CCDC. He is from Endluru village, on the other side of the city of Ongole. After completing his studies as a pastor through India Christian Ministry's Covenant Church program, Lazarus took the opportunity to move his family to Gudipadu and begin a Child Covenant Development Center. Like many of the children in the village whose families are in a state of transition, Lazarus can understand the emotions behind feeling unrooted.

Lazarus is a transplant to Gudipadu himself having moved to the village one year ago to manage the local CCDC.  He is from a nearby village having completed his studies as a pastor through India Christian Ministry's Covenant Churches program. Like many of the children in the village whose families are in a state of transition, Lazarus can understand the emotions behind feeling unrooted.

Despite this, Lazarus has not only raised his family to seamlessly assimilate into their new village, but he has also built Gudipadu's CCDC into a safe, welcoming place for the local children.  Lazarus' core curricular ideal is that of the Fruit of the Spirit, and he makes sure to instill that teaching into the day-to-day CCDC ministry.

Just a few days ago, Lazarus celebrated Christmas with his wife, Shobha Rani, and his two sons, George and John Mark.  And the village of Gudipadu celebrated alongside him as they gave thanks for all the things that have changed within the last year.

Because of you, this Christmas, CCDC has been able to give the greatest gift we could possibly give: a path out of poverty and into a brighter future. We are so grateful for you. Like the village of Gudipadu, we don't know how our lives will change throughout this next year.  But we can be grateful for the way God works within that change, and we can thank you for supporting us through it.
