COVID-19 Arrives in Rural India

When coronavirus struck the town of Gudipadu, where a Covenant Child Development Center is located, the schools had already been closed for a long while. After a rapid testing effort in September, several villagers were found to have been infected with the virus.
One of these cases was Sudhakar, father to Sri Charan, one of our CCDC students at the CCDC church of Gudipadu.

A CCDC Father is Exposed

At one time Sudhakar was a stone mason, but work has been scarce in the past few years. His old bosses in the stone mason industry had promised to call him once work picked back up again. But this year, work has only become scarcer. In the seven months since coronavirus first hit India, Sudhakar’s life has had a lot of ups and downs. His income has not proven enough to provide for his wife, Yogamma, and his two children.

After lockdown, Sudhakar was excited to hear that a flooring job had become available in early September. He took it with great optimism, but when he returned, he fell ill and couldn't seem to recover. In mid-September, Sudhakar tested positive for coronavirus and was quarantined in a government hospital.

A Son’s Prayer, A Father’s Healing
When Sudhakar was in the hospital, our pastor and social workers would talk regularly with him over the phone. During these calls, they would provide encouragement, check up on his condition, and inquire after his family. In one of the calls, Sudhakar said,

“One of my sons, Sri Charan comes to your center Sunday school, yes? Well for a few days about one year ago, Charan was uttering and reciting continuously the memory verse for the week, ‘The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? (Ps. 118:6) To be honest, it was really disturbing, because he would go around muttering this under his breath. It was annoying and creepy, but even then sometimes he would just scream it out. I had to scold him eventually and so he stopped muttering the verse. When I first felt a fever coming on, I began to panic about my family’s future. But suddenly one day I remembered that verse that Charan would mutter one year ago.“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” so I uttered it loudly, “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. Corona cannot do anything to me.” I will come home healed.”

We are pleased to announced that Sudhakar is home from the hospital, and by the grace of God, he has been healed!

Your Impact Through CCDC
CCDC's mission is not only to our students, but to their families as well. We are so grateful to you, our supporters, for aiding us in doing this important work at such a crucial time. May God bless you!
