“If you are unable to find the truth right where you are, where else do you expect to find it?” ― Dogen

Hi, <<First Name>>. I hope that you are finding both ease and time on your cushion as we welcome October.  The shifting seasons present an opportunity to reflect on the cycles and inevitable changes in nature, and as we are one with nature, the cycles and changes in our own lives.  There is a graceful acceptance to the changes in nature; nature does not rail against the chilly mornings making their appearance, nor does it cling to the sunlight as the days become shorter.  In Thich Nhat Hanh's "Love Letter to the Earth," he reminds us:

Dear Mother, wherever there is soil, water, rock or air, you are there, nourishing me and giving me life. You are present in every cell of my body. My physical body is your physical body, and just as the sun and stars are present in you, they are also present in me. You are not outside of me and I am not outside of you. You are more than just my environment. You are nothing less than myself.

Schedule Reminder: We will meet virtually the first 2 Wednesdays and 3rd Sunday of October.  We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments to ensure safety. Please note there is one Zoom link for the first 2 Wednesdays and a separate link for the 3rd Sunday. The Zoom meeting links can be found below.

In this month's newsletter you'll find links to online events, resources, an article with 7 meditations for connecting with nature, and additional information about SEBC.  More resources can be found on our website and Facebook.

We at SEBC affirm our commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and interconnection. If you'd like to chat, have ideas for the community, want to help, etc., please let us know - we'd love to hear from you! And if you haven't joined us in a while (or ever), we'd love to see you (feel free to attend meetings as regularly or as infrequently as you'd like)! May we stand stronger as Beloved Community through our Dharma practice and understanding, and in our larger society as a whole. Let's keep the Dharma wheel turning!

Much metta,
Your friends at SEBC

Monthly Article: A Breath of Fresh Air

 – "The power of the natural world encourages us to let go of our habitual mode of being, which is usually self-centered, acquisitive, and endlessly seeking something outside of ourselves. The everyday thinking mind, with its restless concerns and perennial planning, begins to calm down. The body feels more at ease, and the heart slowly opens and resonates with the peace of the natural world.
