Servant Leadership Institute

Dear Friends,

Earlier this month you should have received a letter from the Committee on Representation, notifying you that you have been admitted to the Servant Leadership Institute. We are very excited about this initiative and your participation!

The program will be facilitated by Janet Steinwedel, a ruling elder from New Castle Presbytery and President of Leader’s Insight. For more info on Janet click the link above.

In preparation for our time together, Janet has requested that each participant provide her with a brief bio of about 2 paragraphs by July 15th. You can email that to her directly at: In addition to that you will receive materials and instructions for completing two assessments via email in late August; a Myers-Briggs style personality assessment and a values assessment. The Myers Briggs assessment is about personality preferences and the values assessment will focus on helping each person develop a clearer understanding of their operational beliefs. You'll go over the results of each with Janet in your 1-1 session, and we'll be using both assessments throughout the year to promote self-awareness, self-management, and to develop language for expressing leadership styles. Please be sure to complete these assessment by September 4th.

Location & Schedule:
The Servant Leadership institute will be housed on the campus New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS) in New Brunswick, NJ. Your first meeting with Janet will be a 1-1 session on the 20th or 21st of September.   Those sessions will be 60-90 mins long, so for those of you traveling a significant distance we can arrange for a video conference.  The remaining sessions will run from 10:00am to 3:00pm, with coffee and pastries in the morning at 9:30am. Lunch and afternoon refreshments will be served.

Program Costs:
All participants are being asked for a contribution of $500, and to cover their own transportation (within 100 miles of our meeting). All meals, and accommodations for those who might need an overnight stay, are included. The actual cost of the program is $5500/person, but is being heavily subsidized by the Synod. Please note that financial assistance is available upon request.

The link below  can be used to make your payment (s) by August 31, 2019, and Servant Leadership as the purpose, or you can send a check to the Synod Office at : 5811 Heritage Landing Dr, East Syracuse, NY 13057.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free  call 315-460-5282 or email me at
We look forward to seeing you.
