Letter to the Synod of
the Northeast Community

May 3, 2020

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We write to announce that the Synod Leader, Reverend Dr. Harold Delhagen, ended his tenure at the Synod of the Northeast yesterday on May 1st. We are grateful for all the innovation and creativity Harold brought to our work and for all the positive developments that he ushered into the Synod and Presbyteries. We look forward to continuing our relationship with respect and care.  Join us in thanking Harold for all he has done.  If you wish to get in touch with Harold, you may reach him at the following email address:  Hdelhagen@gmail.com.

The Synod Mission and Ministries Commission met this weekend and took the following two actions.  It approved the dissolution of the relationship with the Synod Leader.  In addition, the commission approved the development of a position description for a Transitional Leader and the creation of a search team both to be approved by the commission before moving forward.  When there are any updates to share with the larger synod community during this process, we will do so.

In the meantime, Rev. Nancy Talbot will continue to act as the Synod Leader as she has for the past few months, as provided for in the Standing Rules, until the Synod Mission and Ministries Commission acts to appoint a Transitional Synod Leader.

We pray for Harold, Nancy, the Synod staff and all of our Synod community in this time of transition.

Faithfully,

Elder Jacinth Hanson, Synod Moderator
Elder Warren McNeill, Synod Mission and Ministries Commission Moderator
Rev. Leslie Latham, Moderator-Elect
Elder Alan Ford, Treasurer
Rev. Nancy Talbot, Stated Clerk
