SPOTLIGHT

SPOTLIGHT: AREA 51 CLUB

A NEW CO-OP CLUB, HERE IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT, AS TOLD BY THE CLUB ORGANIZER HIMSELF:

I started the Area 51 Club so that I could have interesting conversations with people about anything. Joueles, Caleb and I get together every other week at Café Kopi to talk about whatever comes up.  We talk about everything from movies, to sports, to what it was like for us each in school, and occasionally how to take over the world.  Sometimes I like to throw out random questions like, “Do you believe in UFOs?”  Those are always fun conversations.

To form the club, I invited some people to a planning meeting with Hannah at the Community Choices office.  Caleb, Joueles and I decided on a place to meet, a schedule, and a name for our club.  I suggested the name ‘Area 51’ because I thought it made the group sound mysterious and fun.   They thought it was a good idea, too.

The Area 51 Club has met 4 times already.  I meet regularly with Hannah to talk about how the club is going and I email meeting reminders to Joueles and Caleb.  I think we need to meet a few more times and then we’ll be ready to take over the world.

WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO

THE CHILI COOK-OFF WAS A HIT!

Community Choices wants to give a big thank you to everyone who helped make the Chili Cook Off on October 2nd a huge success!  The event would not have been possible without support from our sponsors, planning committee, all the members and families who contributed, cook-off contestants and everyone who stopped by to enjoy the chili. Special thanks to the Middletown String Band for the wonderful music! We raised $2300 that will help us continue to serve our membership and the community.

Community Choices would like to especially thank the following people and local businesses:

Monetary Donations: Tami Knell Ltd, Lawrence Kessler and Assoc. LTD, Therese E. Schneider, Dave from Ingold’s Grocery Store

In-kind donations: Home Depot, Goodrich Theater, Applebee’s (Savoy), Le Peep, Curtis Orchard, Dr. G's BrainWorks, Sew Sassy, Urbana Acupuncture, Sola Gratia, Bunny's Tavern.

We’d also like to send an extra special thank you to Eric Beasley and Lee Whitacre for all their hard work and recruiting efforts.

And congratulations to our Chili Cook Off Winners:  Jake Davis (Most Creative) and Ryan Thomson (Best Tasting)!

FAMILY BONFIRE

Thank you to the Wood family for hosting this year's family bonfire! What a great way to connect!

NEW PHONE SYSTEM

We recently began using a new phone system that will help make sure that you can reach who you are looking for when calling our main number. When you call our main line, you will now be able to listen to a menu of our names and enter the extension of the person you are trying to reach. You will then be transferred to that staff member, and can leave them a message if they are unable to answer at the time. Please bear with us while we get used to the new system too!
