Upgrade Your Cable Modem For More Reliable Internet Access
Those of you who know me or have followed me personally on Twitter know how much I hate my ISP back home. They're unstable, unreliable, and my routing is awful. During the latest battle with their tech support team, I determined the issues I was having to be caused by my cable modem. Their technician didn't agree, and wouldn't authorize the upgrade/swap of the modem itself.
So I went to the store, bought myself one that had great reviews online, replaced the one at home, and viola, no more issues. In addition, my speeds have been much more consistent, I was able to replace my other access point, and all of my media/streaming use has been improved as a result. The extra icing on the cake is the fact that I no longer have to pay $8/month for "leasing" the TWC modem that was broke.
I went with the Netgear "Nighthawk" Model AC1900, and I'd highly recommend it. Without getting too technical, having extra channels allows for better, more reliable internet speeds, and because you no longer have to pay your ISP to rent their modem, you'll eventually pay back the money you spend on the upgraded device of your own.
Long story short-- if you have a cable modem and your service is inconsistent, consider upgrading for a better overall experience, and in the long run, some $ savings.
